Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, has reportedly acknowledged performance issues on the PS5. However, there is currently no information on when these issues will be resolved.
While receiving high acclaim from both critics and players, Black Myth: Wukong still has some issues that need to be addressed. Certain players have reported experiencing stuttering and hitches on PlayStation 5 when playing in Quality and Balance Modes, which has been a source of frustration for them.
Despite the promised consistency in frame rates, players have reported occasional moments of slow down while using Performance Mode.
The game developer, Game Science, is aware of these problems, but a specific time frame for the release of a patch for players is currently unavailable.
A Redditor (via PlayStation LifeStyle) shared a screenshot of a conversation on Chinese social media platform Weibo between a player and Game Science Director Yang Qi. The translation provided by the Redditor states that the Weibo user inquired about the possibility of improving the optimization and performance of Black Myth: Wukong on PS5.
According to reports, Qi clarified, “We are currently facing issues with the optimizations, as they are being bottlenecked.”
Despite the Redditor’s suggestion that fixes may take a while, it remains unclear if the developer confirmed this in the social media exchange.
In any case, Qi’s statement aligns with the conclusions drawn by sources such as Digital Foundry, which suggests that the frame rate problems and visual deficiencies in certain modes may be due to the Chinese developer’s lack of experience with console game development.
In contrast, the PC version of Black Myth: Wukong is reported to run more smoothly than the PS5 version.
Furthermore, it should be mentioned that Game Science had previously acknowledged the delay of the Xbox Series X|S version of Wukong, citing technical difficulties as the reason. In a recent statement addressing the issue, Game Science stated, “We are currently working on optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to ensure it meets our high standards of quality.”
This, along with the reported PS5 hiccups, suggests that Black Myth: Wukong may have optimization issues on consoles in general.
