Treyarch Addresses Diamond Camo Exploit in Black Ops 6
The latest update from Treyarch has closed a loophole that previously allowed players to achieve the Diamond mastery camo challenge—specifically, the requirement to secure three kills without dying in ten matches—without adhering to the actual criteria.
A Competitive Landscape for Mastery Challenges
Each year, Call of Duty enthusiasts and content creators engage in a spirited competition to be the first to complete every mastery challenge. Notably, during sessions of Modern Warfare 2, player Skullface accomplished this in simultaneous 18 and 24-hour broadcasts. His remarkable run continued with Black Ops 6, where he completed the challenge after an intense 57-hour session, averaging merely three hours of sleep.
Community Reception and Quality-of-Life Improvements
The community has embraced the camo grind in Black Ops 6, earning praise as the “best ever.” This can largely be attributed to significant quality-of-life improvements. For instance, players are no longer required to fully level a weapon before they can start engaging with challenges, and the complexity of the challenges has been reduced compared to earlier games.
While some challenges retain a unique flair, they steer clear of overly complicated tasks, such as the frustrating requirement to destroy 25 equipment items using a grenade launcher, which was prominent in Modern Warfare 3.
Identifying the Glitch
Despite the positive changes, players discovered a glitch that inadvertently made the mastery camo grind even more accessible. Specifically, for the Diamond camo challenge, the exploit permitted participants to accumulate total kills across multiple matches to satisfy the requirement of three consecutive kills without dying.
Recent Updates and Fixes
In the recent update released on November 1, Treyarch did not publicly address the fix for the glitch, but it has since been removed from the game. Additionally, another exploit that allowed players to complete the Dark Matter camo challenge with only 15 kills was also addressed.
This update further rectified an issue related to the unlock notification for Diamond mastery badges.
Moving Forward
Players who exploited the glitch prior to its removal will retain their mastery camos. However, those who missed the opportunity must now pursue the challenge as designed. Securing three eliminations using a melee weapon may present challenges, but players can ease the process by strategically utilizing the best Perks available.
