The latest update for Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 1 Reloaded brings an intriguing twist for players with the introduction of two new weapons. Among these, one can be unlocked during the festive Merry Mayhem event.
Traditionally, new weapon access is provided via the Battle Pass; however, Treyarch has opted for a different approach in this mid-season update. Similar to the previous unlock method for the Sirin 9MM Secondary Weapon during the Hit List event, players will need to complete specific challenges to gain the Malestrom shotgun.
Merry Mayhem Event Dates
The Merry Mayhem event kicks off on December 5 and runs until December 19. Players are encouraged to accumulate enough experience points (XP) by the end date to secure all available rewards.
For those who cannot unlock every item, Activision assures that the Ammo Mod, Field Upgrade, Perk, attachments, and weapon will all be available in the Armory post-event.
Unlocking the Maelstrom Shotgun and Additional Rewards
To unlock the coveted Maelstrom shotgun, players must complete all ten challenges of the Merry Mayhem event by earning sufficient XP. Currently, Activision has disclosed the XP requirements for only a few challenges, leaving players in suspense regarding the total XP needed for completion until the event begins.
Expected Rewards from Merry Mayhem
- “Holiday Fear” Emblem
- “Necroclaus” Loading Screen
- “Nasty Nick” Calling Card
- “Light Mend” Ammo Mod (Zombies Only) and 30-Minute “Double Weapon XP Token”
- “Death Claus” Large Decal
- “Tesla Storm” Field Upgrade (Zombies Only) and 30-Minute “Double XP Token”
- “Bitter Blizzard” Weapon Charm
- “Shrapnel Radar” Perk (Multiplayer Only)
- 30 Minutes “Double Battle Pass XP Token”
- “Scour Drill” Weapon Blueprint (BlackCell Only) and “3-Round Burst Mod” Attachment for the XM4
Beyond the Maelstrom Shotgun, players can look forward to the new Light Mend Ammo Mod exclusive to Zombies. This mod offers players a chance to acquire healing glyphs that restore health for themselves and nearby allies. Additionally, the mod can be upgraded to enhance the glyphs’ effects.
Returning to the fray is the Tesla Storm Field Upgrade, which now stuns and damages enemies for ten seconds while also connecting to teammates — a fresh feature in this title. Furthermore, the Shrapnel Radar, a new Perk available in the third slot, enables players to mark injured enemies spotted via lethals, tacticals, and Field Upgrades on the mini-map.
Finally, the XM4 3-Round Burst Mod Conversion allows players to conserve ammunition while helping maintain a steadier aim compared to the full-auto mode, making it an essential attachment for strategic gameplay.
