Black Ops 6 Community Divided on Pricing for Squid Game Event Pass

Black Ops 6 Community Divided on Pricing for Squid Game Event Pass

The upcoming collaboration between Black Ops 6 and Squid Game has generated a significant amount of excitement; however, a newly unveiled Event Pass has sparked controversy, shifting the focus of discussions.

Just one week prior to the commencement of the Squid Game event in Black Ops 6, leaks surfaced indicating the existence of an Event Pass that would restrict access to some new content through microtransactions. Players reacted negatively to this news, arguing that the game’s current price of $70 already represents a substantial investment, not to mention the optional $10 Battle Pass and $30 BlackCell fee each season.

Initially, players were hesitant to express outrage over the Event Pass, opting to reserve their judgment until the pricing and included content were confirmed. Now that all details have emerged, reactions are mixed—while some players are pleasantly surprised by the affordability, others continue to oppose the notion of further microtransactions.

Event Pass Pricing Ignites Controversy

Activision’s initial blog post announcing the Squid Game event for Black Ops 6 failed to mention the Event Pass’s price, prompting criticism from community figures like CharlieIntel. They demanded greater transparency regarding costs. Shortly thereafter, Activision clarified that the Event Pass would cost 1,100 CoD Points, translating to approximately $10.

This price disclosure initiated a broader debate about the necessity of the Event Pass itself.

According to CoD leaker BobNetwork, there was considerable hype surrounding the premium event pass due to the belief that it would provide better value than purchasing multiple bundles individually. Yet, following the reveal, he expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s just one bundle cut up into a paid XP event.”

Bob’s sentiment resonates with some community members. The Squid Game Young-hee Tracer Pack, combined with the Event Pass, includes an Operator skin, a finishing move, and several weapon blueprints—an indication that the content may not be as substantial as hoped.

Conversely, others defend the Event Pass. One fan remarked, “This is actually way cheaper than everyone was expecting. Is everyone good now?” However, when juxtaposed with the Battle Pass—which also costs $10 but offers significantly more content—many players find it challenging to justify the additional expense. “So, it costs what a standard battle pass costs for what, 10 items? I think I’ll pass,” noted another commenter.

Ultimately, whether or not players choose to invest in the Event Pass remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that there is a free version of the Event Pass available, along with access to all new Limited-Time Modes (LTMs) for every player.
