Fans of the Black Ops 6 franchise are expressing their disappointment as a beloved scorestreak has been rendered “unusable” following a significant change that has not been observed in over a decade of Call of Duty gameplay.
Throughout the history of Call of Duty, developers have occasionally attempted to innovate. Most of these changes have revolved around the create-a-class systems and weapon loadouts. Occasionally, however, iconic features undergo modifications that affect gameplay.
Take, for example, the changes to Ninja and Dead Silence in recent titles, notably Dead Silence transitioning from a standard perk to a Field Upgrade. Such adjustments have sparked mixed reactions amongst the community.
With Black Ops 6, many alterations have entered the COD landscape. While some adaptations, like the introduction of Omnimovement, have been well-received, other changes have not met the same positive reception.
Calls for Adjustment to Care Package Capture Speed
The most recent change that has stirred up controversy is the modification of how quickly Care Packages can be captured in multiplayer mode. In this iteration, both enemies and teammates now capture the scorestreak at the same rate as the player who deployed it, a first in the franchise.
This significant alteration has led to numerous pleas for adjustments. A user on Reddit, Thecceffect, voiced their concerns, stating, “Please slow the capture speed of teammates taking care packages. It should be the same capture rate as enemies, so it gives the earner enough time to grab it, or give it to a teammate.”
This sentiment is echoed by many in the community. One player noted the odd behavior displayed when spotting smoke, suggesting that teammates often just wait around, while another user reflected on how the change has made the Care Package “borderline unusable”and disclosed their current choice to avoid it.
Care Packages have long been a staple killstreak feature in the Call of Duty franchise.
Another player remarked on the absurdity of this issue considering the Care Package mechanic has worked smoothly for 15 years. “The person that calls in the care package captures it much faster than anybody else, whether it be a teammate or an enemy. Care package has been in every game since MW2 (2009). It has worked that way for over 15 years lmao. The fact that they haven’t fixed it yet makes it significantly more egregious,” they stated.
As the gaming community waits for a potential response from Treyarch, it appears any changes will likely have to wait until the New Year, given that the development team is currently off for the holiday season.
