Fixing the Marine SP: Treyarch Addresses a Game-Breaking Shotgun Glitch
Treyarch has recently put an end to the havoc wreaked by the Marine SP in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Players experienced a significant imbalance due to a glitch that allowed this shotgun to maintain perfect accuracy, transforming it into an unstoppable force on the battlefield.
Weaknesses of Shotguns in Multiplayer
While shotguns typically hold their own in the Call of Duty franchise, they have struggled to make a mark in the standard multiplayer environment of Black Ops 6. The ASG-89 shotgun is praised in the Zombies mode, especially for its ability to dispatch formidable foes like Manglers and Abominations, often outperforming even the esoteric Wonder Weapons in late-game scenarios. Nevertheless, shotguns, including the Marine SP, tend to underperform in competitive multiplayer, particularly outside of the scaled-back Face Off mode.
Inconsistencies and the Glitch Exploit
The main drawback of shotguns in Black Ops 6 lies in their limited one-shot range and the inconsistency of their time-to-kill (TTK) metrics when facing off against ranged opponents. For players engaged in typical 6v6 matches, it is often more advantageous to rely on submachine guns (SMGs) for engagements unless foes are within very close proximity.
Despite the limitations, many multiplayer maps are compact, providing shotguns with potential viability. However, players soon discovered that by equipping the 12 Gauge Slug Rounds, the Marine SP could lock onto enemies within 12 meters without missing—effectively turning it into a one-shot-killing machine with enhanced damage range and bullet velocity.
Recent Updates and Weapon Alternatives
In response to this opportune glitch, Treyarch swiftly implemented a minor update to rectify the exploit, thus balancing the game and alleviating player concerns about unexpected one-shot eliminations. With this adjustment, players can now revert to more conventional weapon choices without experiencing the frustrations caused by the Marine SP’s former capabilities.
As the dust settles, weapons such as the AS VAL, C9, and KSV are likely to regain their status as reliable options for close-quarters combat. Even without the glitch, the Marine SP remains a formidable choice for specific maps and game modes, though ARs will still dominate much of the landscape in competitive play for Black Ops 6.
A Shifting Meta in Competitive Play
The current meta is leaning heavily towards assault rifles (ARs), as evidenced by pro players agreeing to ban the Model L and XMG from competitive scrims. This decision underscores a significant strategic shift, signaling that players might need to adjust their approaches and tactics to remain competitive in the ever-evolving gameplay of Black Ops 6.
