Treyarch continues to support the existing cross-play feature in the Ranked mode of Black Ops 6, despite an alarming increase in cheating incidents that have plagued multiplayer games in recent weeks.
The Call of Duty franchise has grappled with a persistent cheating issue over the years. An early surge of cheaters occurred during the Verdansk era of Warzone, leading several prominent players to abandon the game entirely.
In response, the developers implemented the Ricochet anti-cheat system, which has made strides in combating this issue. Nonetheless, many cheaters still find ways to disrupt gameplay, creating negative experiences for legitimate players.
This situation has escalated within Black Ops 6, particularly in Ranked matches where players employing wallhacks and aimbots dominate, frustrating those who are attempting to improve their rankings or maintain their current status.
Cross-Play Will Remain Active in Black Ops 6 Ranked Mode
Many community members, from casual gamers to influencers, have called on developers to consider disabling cross-play to protect console players from cheaters predominantly found on PC. Despite these concerns, the developers have opted to retain cross-play.
In a blog post dated December 23, the development team stated, “For Ranked Play in Black Ops 6, cross-play is active for all players. This allows for the largest player population possible, ensuring efficient matchmaking with opponents of similar rank and skill levels.” They also reassured players that they are actively gathering feedback from the community and are committed to addressing cheating reports through Team RICOCHET.
The Ranked Play aspect is currently beset by cheating issues.
While cross-play remains unchanged, several modifications to Ranked gameplay are on the horizon. Notably, your first loss of the day will not result in any Skill Rating (SR) deduction, providing players a slight reprieve in their ranking efforts. Additionally, the Seasonal Setback mechanics are being adjusted: Bronze and Silver players will no longer experience setbacks, while Gold and Diamond players can expect to be reset to either Gold or Platinum I. Those in the Diamond tier or higher will revert to Diamond 1.
Moreover, the introduction of a forfeit feature is anticipated, enabling teams to collectively decide to exit the match if they find themselves outmatched or if a teammate disconnects. Players are encouraged to stay tuned for these upcoming enhancements.
