As we usher in 2025, Treyarch has finally unveiled an array of community-driven updates for Black Ops 6, scheduled for release on January 3. This announcement has reignited hopes among players eager for enhancements in the gaming experience.
Though Black Ops 6 launched with great fanfare, earning the title of the “biggest Call of Duty ever,”its player base has seen a significant decline recently. After a peak of 315,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch, the numbers slipped to just over 100,000 by late December. The competitive landscape has further intensified with other multiplayer titles such as Marvel Rivals gaining popularity, contributing to the exodus of notable content creators, including Nadeshot, amid frustrations with performance issues and rampant cheating.
Fortunately, Treyarch has responded to fan input by implementing several anticipated changes to rejuvenate interest in BO6.
What’s New: Multiplayer and Zombies Updates for Black Ops 6
While complete patch notes are forthcoming, players can expect notable updates, including:
- Introduction of new game modes in both Multiplayer and Zombies
- Implementation of the High Roller Wildcard in Multiplayer
- Buffs to the Elemental Swords in the Zombies mode
- Enhancements to Prop Hunt
- Fixes for bugs in Citadelle des Morts
- Updates to the Zombies Calling Card Challenge
- Improvements to the After-Action Report
Additionally, players have until January 3 to utilize Double XP opportunities. However, some players expressed their disappointment with the XP gains in Warzone and Multiplayer, claiming that they earned less than if they had used a Double XP token.
Despite this hiccup, the upcoming updates should generate considerable excitement. The introduction of the High Roller Wildcard will allow players to carry an additional Scorestreak, a beneficial adjustment given that BO6 does not support looping Killstreaks, appealing particularly to skilled players who regularly achieve impressive kill counts.
Players initially enjoyed the challenge of unlocking each elemental sword on the Citadelle des Morts map, but many were disheartened by the swords’ underwhelming performance compared to other Wonder Weapons. The upcoming buff seeks to rectify this issue, enhancing the swords’ utility and making the pursuit of these powerful tools more gratifying.
