Fans of Black Ops 6 are expressing their frustration regarding the recent Squid Game crossover event. They have reported that one of the new operator skins is being automatically equipped after each game, disrupting their preferred gameplay experience.
With the launch of Season 1, Black Ops 6 introduced an array of operator skins and bundles, some of which have sparked controversy due to their unique finishing moves. However, the newly released Squid Game event, which went live on January 3, has added microtransactions including a paid event pass. This pass allows players to unlock a new melee weapon, double XP tokens, and two additional operator skins.
Operator Skin Reset: An Accidental Selection?
Initially, players took to Reddit shortly after the Squid Game crossover to voice concerns that Call of Duty might be intentionally switching their selected operator to promote engagement with the event. One user lamented, “I swear to f**king God, they can’t not release an update without breaking the game. Since I’ve updated and it switched my skin to random squid game guy, every time I pick a different skin, the game will automatically switch it to the default operator of that skin.”
Another user humorously lamented, “YOU WILL PLAY THE SQUID GAME AND YOU WILL LIKE IT,” while others noted that they too were reverted to default skins after every match.
I am convinced at this point that they are deliberately changing my default skin every time I log in – in an attempt to sell this event. by u/s0und7 in CODWarzone
While bugs can often arise in large updates, this particular issue appears to be a design oversight. Players have noted that the Squid Game tab has been placed where the loadout settings usually reside, which may lead to unintentional equipping of the Player 006 skin. Users press ‘A’ on Xbox controllers, ‘X’ on DualSense, or Space on PC when navigating the event tab, which activates the skin selection. Given that many players frequently access the loadout page after matches, this error might occur without their awareness.
Many within the community are already expressing dissatisfaction with Activision’s decisions, perceiving the Squid Game crossover as a blatant attempt to capitalize on the popular trend rather than enhance gameplay.
