After her indoor smoking controversy, a malicious user edited BLACKPINK member Jennie’s Korean Wiki page.
On July 10, 2024, a post titled “Someone altered Jennie’s Namu Wiki page”was uploaded to Nate Pann, a popular online forum in South Korea. The post featured a screenshot of the page, which had been edited by an unidentified user.
Despite being known as the Korean version of Wikipedia, Namu Wiki is widely criticized for its lack of strict rules when it comes to editing. Unlike Wikipedia, which requires references and sources, Namu Wiki does not necessarily enforce these requirements. As a result, the accuracy of its content has been called into question.
Jennie has fallen victim to a recent case of malicious editing. The user altered her given name, changing it from “Kim Jennie”to “Nguyeon Cuong Phuc.”They also falsely listed her birthplace as Hanoi, when in fact she was born in Bundang, Seongnam. Additionally, her nationality was incorrectly changed from Korean to Vietnamese.
The author was taken aback by the change and questioned whether people were acting out of hate because of her controversy surrounding indoor smoking and vaping.
Upon viewing the post, Korean netizens were also taken aback. A number of them were of the opinion that the moderators of Namu Wiki should be replaced and the guidelines should be altered to allow only reliable individuals or fans to make edits on the page.
Many were taken aback by the blatant display of racism towards Jennie. They noted the discriminatory behavior of South Korean individuals and criticized the offensive editing aimed at the Vietnamese community. It was also brought to attention that while South Koreans strongly condemn racism from Westerners towards Asians, they need to address their own issues with racism.
Several comments were read,
- “Do people actually enjoy this? Our country seriously has the most racist people.”
- “Isn’t this f*cking rude towards Vietnamese people?”
- “People get so worked up when a Westerner is racist towards Asians. Meanwhile, our country is the best at being racist.”
- “Seriously, we need to have different moderators for Namu Wiki. And we should make it so that only fans can change this kind of information.”
- “Nguyeon Cuong Phuc… Wow…”

Amid the vaping scandal, the past attitude controversy of BLACKPINK’s Jennie at a restaurant has resurfaced.
In July 2, Jennie posted a vlog documenting her work trip to Capri, Italy. However, a clip from the vlog was later released, revealing Jennie vaping while having her hair and make-up done. This sparked criticism for smoking indoors and blowing smoke in the direction of a staff member. In response to the backlash, Jennie’s agency, ODD ATELIER, released an apology on her behalf.
