BLACKPINK’s Lisa Reveals the Challenges of Achieving Global Stardom Beyond the Glamour

In a candid interview with WOODY FM, BLACKPINK’s Lisa shared her reflections on the tumultuous year of 2024, which she described as filled with substantial challenges, sleepless nights, and innovative pursuits in both her music and acting careers.

Discussing her taxing experience throughout 2024, Lisa expressed that it had been one of the most stressful times in her life.“I found it difficult to get adequate rest; most of my downtime occurred while traveling. Reflecting back, I’m not entirely sure how I managed such a relentless schedule. Yet, I focused on efficiency, which included immersing myself in new ventures like acting and launching my first solo album, ” she revealed.

Delving into the creation of her debut solo single, “Rockstar, ” Lisa articulated the distinct challenges she faced. This project was a departure from her previous works, further complicated by her collaboration with a new team in Los Angeles.“Initially, I felt intimidated because I was unfamiliar with this creative environment. Back in Korea, I worked alongside a team that deeply understood my artistic style. In LA, however, they were less acquainted with my approach, necessitating a period of adjustment, ” she added.

Lisa also touched upon the effects of criticism, acknowledging that no matter how much energy she invests in her work, negative feedback is an inevitable aspect of her career.“I consistently strive to deliver my best, yet criticism persists. While I know not everyone will appreciate my work, some comments have made me question my abilities.‘Am I still not good enough?’” she reflected.

When probed about her inclination to read negative remarks, Lisa elaborated, “I desire to understand public opinion regarding my solo endeavors. Since this was my inaugural solo project, it involved several responsibilities handled independently. I felt it important to gauge audience reactions, although I didn’t anticipate it would affect me so deeply.”

However, she has developed techniques for managing criticism over time.“People often underestimate the pressure I experience. Fortunately, I have adapted. Now, I feel a stronger sense of confidence during performances, although I still aim to improve my English skills, ” she acknowledged.

Confrontations with Overzealous Fans

In a revealing moment, Lisa shared her unsettling experiences with obsessive fans.“I had often heard my friends discuss sasaengs, but I hadn’t encountered them personally until last year. One day, after returning home in Korea, where security was somewhat lax, I found a fan waiting outside. I had to explain to them, ‘If you wish to see me, please attend my events and not come to my house.’”

Unfortunately, that incident escalated quickly.“Later that evening, when my manager was absent, I took a taxi alone. Suddenly, someone attempted to enter alongside me, even placing their foot inside the door to prevent it from closing. I was terrified and unsure how to respond. Since then, I’ve felt uneasy about being alone, ” she recounted.

As a result of these experiences, Lisa now travels with a female manager accompanying her at all times in both Korea and Los Angeles.

Finding Balance Amidst the Pressure

Lisa also reflected on her latest solo album, “Alter Ego, ” and her acting debut alongside her role in “The White Lotus.” She mentioned, “Without a model to emulate, I felt quite anxious. However, I placed my trust in my team, and we collaboratively devised the most effective strategies.”

Amid the pressures of her career, Lisa still cherishes the simple pleasures in life.“I find comfort in my cats; their presence is soothing. Shopping is another joy of mine, a way to unwind. If I feel fatigued, I sleep; if I can’t sleep, I head out shopping, ” she shared.

Through all her challenges and successes, Lisa continues to forge her path with determination, embracing new opportunities while cherishing the small joys that keep her grounded. Most recently, she mesmerized audiences with an electrifying performance at the 2025 Oscars, further solidifying her reputation as a global superstar.
