Blizzard is Developing New RPG FPS Game with Overwatch 2 Product Manager Involvement

Blizzard job listings and a recent LinkedIn profile update indicate that the studio is developing an RPG FPS game.

Blizzard has been secretly working on a new FPS that is distinct from its canceled survival game and the reported AA mobile titles based on existing intellectual properties.

On August 30, X user bogorad222 made a significant discovery on the LinkedIn page of Overwatch 2’s Product Manager, Chris McCabe.

His profile initially stated he was involved in an “unannounced AAA RPG-FPS title,” but it has since been changed to simply “Unannounced AAA Title.” The profile does not specify when he started working on this project.

Blizzard described a combat designer position stating, “Under your care, monsters will be interesting, memorable, and challenging, from the initial threats all the way to legendary boss encounters players will talk about for decades.”

The involvement of the Overwatch Project Manager has sparked hope among Overwatch fans that a standalone PvE game could be in development, especially following the cancellation of OW2’s story content due to poor sales.

“Part of me thinks this is the actual Overwatch 2, or at least a new IP with those same ideas,” one user shared.

Could Overwatch 2 PvE be saved?

“So those Overwatch PvE rumors only grow more and more,” noted another user on Reddit.

Conversely, some believe this new game might take place in the StarCraft universe, especially since Microsoft’s Phil Spencer expressed interest in bringing StarCraft to Xbox during the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.

“Not only StarCraft, but WarCraft, when you think about the heritage of RTS games that we’re talking about here, specifically from Blizzard. And I don’t have any concrete plans today because I can’t really get in and work with the teams,” Phil stated in a 2022 interview with Wired.

We’ll have to await further news from Blizzard, but for fans of Overwatch and StarCraft, it seems promising developments could be on the horizon.
