Blox Fruits Controversy: Reasons Behind Players’ Frustration with Dragon Tokens

After nearly a year of anticipation, the much-awaited Dragon Update for Blox Fruits has finally launched, igniting excitement among players worldwide. However, this update has stirred controversy, as it brought a significant alteration to an existing game mechanic instead of introducing entirely new features.

The Blox Fruits Dragon Tokens Controversy

While players expected the update to enhance the existing Dragon Fruit, they were taken aback to discover that it would be replaced by a new variant, requiring substantial resources for acquisition. The new Dragon Fruit is priced at 10,000,000 in-game currency or 5,000 Robux (approximately $62), raising concerns about accessibility for many players.

Previously, acquiring the classic Dragon Fruit was already a challenge, costing 3,500,000 in-game currency or 2,600 Robux (around $32). As a result, many players resorted to Robux purchases. The crux of the dispute lies in the decision that players must now either grind for the new fruit or repurchase it, without an option for a complimentary replacement. Additionally, the mastery level associated with the fruit has been reset, confounding players who now face the uphill task of starting from scratch with the new variant.

In response to this drastic shift, Dragon Tokens were introduced into players’ inventories as substitutes for the Classic Dragon Fruit. These tokens can be utilized to obtain a discount on the new Dragon Fruit or to acquire other items. If players had previously owned the Permanent Dragon Fruit, it has now been exchanged for a Permanent Dragon Token, while those with a physical Dragon Fruit received a standard Dragon Token.

These tokens can be transformed into a random Mythical Fruit by clicking the Activate button or can be exchanged for various items, including:

  • New Permanent Dragon Fruit at a discount price of 2,400 Robux
  • Dark Blade, 2x Mythical Scrolls, 2x Legendary Scrolls, and Extra Fragments (stored)
  • 2x Money, 2x Boss Drops, 2x Master, Fast Boats, 1 Fruit Storage, and Extra Fragments (stored)
  • Permanent Dough Fruit and Flame Fruit (stored)

The community reaction has been fervent, with numerous players expressing feelings of being cheated out of their investments. Many have sought refunds, taking to platforms like Discord and Reddit to share their discontent. A notable post on Reddit has garnered nearly 900 upvotes, stating:

They deleted our dragons and replaced them with tokens for a random mythic fruit. Save your tokens. There will be backlash and possibly a chance to get our dragons back. They also deleted perm dragons. Do not let them hear the end of this.

Players on X (formerly Twitter) have also voiced their disappointment, with one tweet reading:

Numerous YouTubers have created content highlighting the perception that Dragon Fruit owners have been wronged. Additionally, some players are reporting the game for violating terms of service, arguing that this change diminishes the value of their past purchases.

Amidst the backlash, the Blox Fruits development team addressed the issue on Discord, assuring players that they are actively seeking a resolution, particularly for those holding permanent fruit.

We are working on a solution to the Dragon Token situation. We will be implementing a change for players who previously owned the Permanent Dragon prior to today’s update. Give us time to implement this.
