Blue Box Anime Confirms Two-Cour Series Run Announcement

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the team behind the Blue Box anime series announced that the highly anticipated project will span two consecutive cours, translating to a continuous run of approximately six months. This implies that the series will feature around 24-26 episodes overall, though the final count has yet to be confirmed as of the time of this writing.

The announcement was made via the official X account (formerly Twitter), alongside a new key visual showcasing the main characters. The Blue Box anime is set to premiere in Japan on Thursday, October 3, 2024, airing on TBS and 28 associated networks, followed by international streaming on Netflix.

Moreover, the Blue Box anime will also feature a biweekly podcast hosted by voice actors Reina Ueda and Akari Kito, who portray Chinatsu Kano and Hina Chono, respectively. The podcast is scheduled to launch with its “0th”episode on Tuesday, October 1, at 6:30 PM JST. Fans can look for a link to submit messages and possible discussion topics for the podcast.

Alongside Ueda and Kito, the talented cast includes Shoya Chiba, Chiaki Kobayashi, Yuma Uchida, Shogo Sakata, Anna Nagase, and Asaki Yuikawa, who voice Taiki Inomata, Kyo Kasahara, Kengo Haryu, Ryosuke Nishida, Nagisa Funami, and Niina Shimazaki, respectively. Given the announcement of the series’ two consecutive cour run, there may be additional cast members introduced as the first season progresses; however, this remains speculative at this point.

The anime is directed by Yuichiro Yano at Telecom Animation Film, with series scripts supervised by Yuko Kakihara. Miho Tanino is responsible for character design. The planning and production of the series fall to UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS. The opening theme song, “Same Blue” , is performed by Official HiGE DANdism, while the ending theme song, “Teenage Blue” , is by Eve.

This adaptation of Blue Box is a television anime based on the original manga by author and illustrator Koji Miura. The manga initially debuted as a one-shot in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2020, followed by a formal serialization beginning in April 2021.

The 17th volume of the manga is set to be published in Japan on Friday, October 4, while the 12th volume will be released in English by Viz Media on Monday, October 1. Additionally, Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service offers the series digitally in English, summarizing it as follows:
