Blue Eye Samurai Season 2: What to Expect

The anticipation for another season of Blue Eye Samurai is high among fans following its positive reception from Netflix viewers. We have gathered all the information, including the release date, cast, and plot details for Season 2.

In 2023, Netflix continued to expand and push the limits of their original animated releases, releasing a steady stream of popular anime titles.

The streaming platform has gained immense popularity through its new anime productions, including adaptations of renowned American films like Scott Pilgrim and bringing beloved Japanese manga titles like Pluto to life.

Blue Eye Samurai was also no exception, quickly earning a flawless Rotten Tomatoes score and becoming a fan favorite. This praise extended to renowned storyteller Hideo Kojima, who enthusiastically praised the show and declared it the top anime of the year.

Michael Green, known for his work on Blade Runner 2049 and Logan, co-created Blue Eye Samurai with his wife Amber Noizumi. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, follows a mixed-race sword master on a vengeful journey, now available for streaming on Netflix.

The growing popularity of Blue Eye Samurai has left fans eagerly anticipating Season 2. Here’s everything we currently know about it.

Blue Eye Samurai: Season 2

Only a month after its initial release, Netflix announced that Blue Eye Samurai had been renewed for a second season in December 2023.

According to the statement, Mizu (Maya Erskine) will not be ending her quest for vengeance anytime soon. The protagonist of Blue Eye Samurai will persist in her pursuit for justice and will waste no time in delivering it in Season 2.

Despite the high praise the series received, the news is not unexpected. However, there is a concern about whether the show will have the opportunity to continue for additional seasons and fully explore the narrative set up in Season 1.

The first season of the show centers on one of the three men the protagonist is pursuing, suggesting that additional seasons may be necessary to fully resolve the plot. It seems that the creators are indeed planning for more seasons to come.

During an interview with Screen Rant before the show’s premiere, Amber Noizumi and Michael Green revealed their plans for the future. They shared that they have an approved outline for Season 2 and hinted that their envisioned story could potentially span “at least three to four seasons.”

Additionally, they have their sights set on a potential spinoff featuring Ringo as the main character.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Release Date

As of December 2023, the official release date for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 has not been announced.

Despite Netflix confirming its return, the show’s first season was released three years after its initial production announcement. This suggests that it could be at least another year or more before a trailer is released.

Director Jane Wu has also teased that the first episode is currently in the works. This exciting news was confirmed in an exclusive interview with Comicbook.

Director Michael Green expressed his excitement for the progress of the project, stating that it was going great.

“We are fortunate to have an exceptional team working tirelessly, utilizing their skills and expertise to achieve the seemingly impossible once again. We continue to push the boundaries and also take the time to acknowledge and improve upon our strengths, while also pursuing new and daring endeavors.”

Who will be in Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?

Despite the lack of confirmation, based on the way the story ended, it is reasonable to assume that the following cast members will be returning for Season 2:

  • Maya Erskine and Mizu
  • Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler
  • Masi Oka as Ringo
  • Darren Barnet as Taigen
  • Brenda Song as Princess Akemi
  • Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as The Swordmaker

What will be the plot of Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?

In an interview with Variety, Jane Wu, the director and producer of the anime, revealed additional information about the sequel.

Wu has hinted that Season 2 will continue to revolve around London, stating “I can’t reveal too much about the story as I haven’t seen the script yet, but I do anticipate us delving into the city of London, depending on our budget and schedule.”

The story is by no means complete, leaving ample room for further exploration in future seasons as Season 1 concluded with a relatively open ending.

After sparing the main antagonist Abijah Fowler and with the possibility of heading to London, Mizu shifts her focus to hunting down the other traffickers Skeffington and Routey. We can be certain that Fowler and Mizu will inevitably cross paths once more.
