Blue Lock Chapter 271: Rin’s Past Reveals What Inspired His Ego

After the release of Blue Lock chapter 271, the manga series unveiled the reason behind Rin Itoshi’s destructive ego. This was depicted through a flashback that showcased how Rin was influenced by a boss monster from a TV show. Like the monster, Rin aspired to challenge and conquer opponents who were stronger than him.

In the previous chapter, Rin Itoshi began his counterattack, which allowed Isagi to determine that Rin is a restrictive self-type player. As a result, Isagi chose to emulate Sae and prevent Rin from entering a flow state as much as he could. Meanwhile, Rin’s ego caused his carefully woven memories to unravel.

This article includes spoilers from the Blue Lock manga.

After enjoying ice cream, Rin and Sae returned home in chapter 271 of Blue Lock. Upon their arrival, their mother questioned Rin about broken toys. Fortunately, Sae stepped in and took responsibility for the damage.

The manga chapter offered a sneak peek of a popular show where a hero battled a boss monster. This show was a hit with children, particularly in Rin’s kindergarten. The other kids adored the hero and mimicked his actions during class. After observing their play, Rin caused a disturbance by accidentally toppling a Jenga tower.

Shortly after, Rin Itoshi was depicted in the manga jumping off a climber at the playground in an attempt to catch a pigeon. However, the pigeons managed to fly away before Rin could catch them, and he ended up injuring himself. Following this, the manga chapter depicted Rin watching a wildlife show where a leopard was seen hunting a deer, which Rin found to be incredibly entertaining.

Shortly after, in Blue Lock chapter 271, Rin’s mother confronted her husband about Rin’s recent misbehavior. She expressed concern not only for Rin, but also for Sae, who seemed to be acting oddly due to Rin’s influence. Despite this, Rin’s father remained confident that his son would mature and outgrow his troublesome behavior. Rin overheard their discussion and it clearly affected him, as he declined an ice cream offer from his brother.

Afterwards, Rin approached his brother Sae Itoshi and questioned whether he was considered strange and if he made people uncomfortable. Sae reassured Rin that he also faced criticism for being peculiar. Sae then inquired if Rin was content with being similar to him. This lifted Rin’s spirits as he had no issues with sharing similarities with Sae.

Rin was still engrossed in the popular show mentioned earlier when Sae noticed. Sae was taken aback, as he had previously thought the hero’s character was too childish for Rin’s taste. However, Rin clarified that it was actually the boss monster that caught his attention. Despite knowing he was no match for the hero, the boss monster would still risk his life in hopes of defeating him.

Rin Itoshi was convinced that the boss monster was extremely impressive. He longed to one day face a formidable opponent, defeat them, and meet his end in glorious battle, just like the boss monster. Reflecting on these memories, Rin Itoshi understood the source of his own destructive tendencies. In that moment, Michael Kaiser suddenly charged at him, attempting to steal the ball.
