Blue Lock: Isagi’s Necessary Downfall Is on the Horizon

As the Blue Lock manga approaches its conclusion of the Neo Egoist League Arc, fans are eager to see what transformation awaits Yoichi Isagi. Recent plot twists have highlighted that Isagi is currently not positioned above his competitors.

In line with typical manga storytelling, Isagi’s character arc required a significant setback for him to evolve and rise again. Remarkably, that seems to be the direction that Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura are taking, as the latest chapter indicates Isagi has reached his lowest point.

In the ongoing match between Bastard Munchen and Paris X Gen, the score stood at 2-2, with each team’s star players—Yoichi Isagi, Michael Kaiser, Rin Itoshi, and Ryusei Shidou—having scored the goals. Hence, the next scorer would not only secure the victory for their team but also earn the title of the top player from this group.

Among these players, Ryusei Shidou maintained his usual style, while Isagi’s rivals, Rin and Kaiser, appeared to leverage Isagi’s abilities to fuel their own growth. Rin was frequently in a heightened “Flow”state, and Kaiser emerged revitalized, now willing to pass to his Blue Lock teammates. He had also perfected his signature move, the Kaiser Impact Point – Magnus.

Given these character awakenings, it became clear that Yoichi Isagi would need a significant breakthrough or transformation to rise above the rest. As is common in manga narratives, such evolutions often stem from moments of defeat. Consequently, Isagi truly required a setback, which the current manga narrative provides with the entrance of Master Strikers Noel Noa and Julian Loki.

Initially, Isagi felt deceived when Noa disclosed that he had been using Isagi’s growth to facilitate Kaiser’s awakening. Furthermore, witnessing Julian Loki’s extraordinary speed forced Isagi to confront his own understanding of ‘genius.’ The final blow came when Noa dismissed Isagi’s concerns, prompting him to come to terms with the fact that he was merely a ‘prodigy’ capable of competing with geniuses rather than a genius himself.

Although Isagi can currently contend with these gifted players, he realizes that his skills might not suffice in future global competitions. This sobering revelation left Yoichi Isagi in tears as he understood his limitations and could no longer envision himself surpassing rivals like Rin Itoshi or Noel Noa.

At the precise moment Isagi hit rock bottom, Ego Jinpachi offered a striking analogy regarding his situation. Isagi had finally encountered the “prodigy’s wall,”which, though daunting, could also serve as a foundation for substantial growth. Consequently, the Blue Lock manga teases that Yoichi Isagi might achieve a significant evolution by the conclusion of the Neo Egoist League Arc.
