After a promising beginning last week, Blue Lock season 2 has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse with its latest episode. Anticipation ran high following the anime’s second promotional video, which hinted at potential animation issues. Sadly, those concerns have been validated, as fans witnessed a significant decline in quality in episode 2 of Blue Lock season 2.
The lackluster animation has positioned the anime on its way to becoming a notable letdown among the numerous titles of Fall 2024. Fans are generally understanding when it comes to some compromised animation if they believe that the production team is reallocating their resources effectively. However, at present, there’s no assurance of that, leaving viewers anxious about the adaptation of the U-20 Arc.
Issues with Blue Lock season 2
As hinted in the promotional materials, it seems that Blue Lock’s fans are in for a challenging time due to subpar animation quality. So far, only clips from the initial two episodes have been released. While the debut episode showcased acceptable animation, the follow-up episode fell considerably short.
There were moments in the episode that featured impressively vibrant colors and eye-catching effects, yet the overall animation evoked the feel of a PowerPoint presentation, marked by odd transitions. The characters’ movements appeared awkward, as players were merely panned across the screen to simulate action.
Fans generally have reservations about CG animation, but for this particular episode, many noted that the best animated sections incorporated CG. This serves as a clear indicator of the overall low standard of animation.
Fan reactions to Blue Lock season 2’s animation quality
What chiefly concerns fans, however, is the prospect of an inadequate adaptation of the U-20 Arc from the manga. This particular arc is widely regarded as one of the peak moments in sports manga history. Given the current animation quality, fans are left dreading that its adaptation will fall short.

“Blue Lock vs U20 is on track to become one of the greatest disappointments in recent anime history,”lamented another fan.
“Fans of Tower of God and Uzumaki are watching Blue Lock get wrecked,”another user remarked.
“Before the anime era, Record of Ragnarok and Blue Lock were phenomenal. I remember the thrill of reading them. They deserved a far better adaptation,”another fan added.
Additional fans drew parallels between the current animation and previous projects that faced online ridicule for their substandard production quality, including Tower of God and Uzumaki, which saw a drop in quality as their series progressed, as well as Record of Ragnarok, which started poorly and never improved.
