Blue Lock Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, and All the Latest Updates

Blue Lock Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, and All the Latest Updates

The players are taking a break after an intense first half, but the start of Blue Lock Season 2 is coming soon and we have all the information.

In 2022, Blue Lock raised the standards for sports anime by blending football with Shonen elements, resulting in an incredible outcome. The manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura immediately established itself as one of the top anime series, especially for those who enjoy Demon Slayer or One Piece and have a hidden interest in football.

After the success of the first season, we received a second season and even a film, Episode Nagi (you can check out our review for Blue Lock: The Movie here). With the spin-off now released, we can finally continue with Yoichi’s story. The question is, when will everyone return from the bench?

Blue Lock Season 2 Release Date

Blue Lock’s second season will begin on Saturday, October 5, 2024, following the same schedule as the first season which premiered in October 2022. This consistency in scheduling shows that the show is staying on track two years later.

Confirmation for Season 2 was announced shortly after the conclusion of the first season in early 2023. The beginning of Yoichi Isagi’s quest to become the greatest striker in Japanese history was so impressive that it even led to the release of a spin-off movie, Episode Nagi, in the summer of 2024.

What Manga Chapters are Being Adapted?

The Second Season of Blue Lock should encompass chapters 95-151, concluding the Third Selection Arc and transitioning into the U-20 Arc. The initial season introduced the Third Selection Arc, but only covered a few chapters before ending on Chapter 94, where Ego declares the upcoming match against Japan’s U-20 team.

In the remaining part of the arc, the Blue Lock players compete for the 11 positions needed to face the national team. The U-20 Arc focuses on the match, where Yoichi, Nagi, and their team face a formidable opponent in a high stakes game that will determine Japan’s representatives for the future.

U-20 is the penultimate arc and is known for its intense football action. In simpler terms, it features numerous exciting moments of goal attempts and other maneuvers.

In what order do the arcs in the Blue Lock manga appear?

  • Introduction Arc (Chapters 1-4, Season 1)
  • First Selection Arc (Chapter 5-38, Season 1)
  • Second Selection Arc (Chapters 39-86, Season 1)
  • Third Selection Arc (Chapters 87-108, Seasons 1 and 2)
  • U-20 Arc (Chapters 109-151, Season 2)
  • Neo Egoist League Arc (Chapters 152-268)

Blue Lock Season 2 Trailer

The July 2024 Anime Expo saw the release of the trailer for Season 2 of Blue Lock. While there was no actual gameplay footage shown, the players were featured in a poster with one-liners teasing their upcoming match and their excitement to play together on the pitch.

The trailer confirms the previously announced premiere date of October 2024, which we were already aware of.

Should you watch Episode Nagi first?

Although it is not necessary to watch Episode Nagi before Blue Lock Season 2, it would provide additional insight. The spin-off offers a retelling of the first season from the perspectives of Seishirō Nagi and Reo Mikage, showcasing their partnership and providing greater context for the participants in the Blue Lock program.

Blue Lock: The Movie

Although Episode Nagi is considered a spin-off and Yoichi is the main protagonist, skipping the film will not result in missing any crucial information. However, there may be references that may not be understood if the movie is not watched. For a complete viewing experience, it is recommended to watch the film.

What is the episode count for Blue Lock Season 2?

The second season of Blue Lock will consist of 14 episodes, a significant decrease from the 24 episodes in the first season. This decision is understandable, especially since there has been a movie and the source material is being adapted.

Producing the Nagi episode would have required a significant amount of resources from Eight Bit. The U-20 Arc spans over 42 chapters, and if we also include the remaining chapters from the Third Selection Arc, it would result in a shorter yet action-packed season. The final arc would be saved for a potential third season.

This is all the information currently available for Blue Lock Season 2. Be sure to also check out our guides for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 and Solo Leveling Season 2, as both are highly anticipated sequels from popular franchises.
