The live-action adaptation of The Blue Period is scheduled to premiere on August 9, 2024. As previously stated, this will be the Japanese release date before it becomes available in other countries.
The manga Blue Period, created by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, has been adapted into an art-themed film. Kentaro Hagiwara, known for his work on Tokyo Ghoul, will be directing, while Reiko Yoshida will be in charge of the script. Yuuki “Yaffle” Kojima has provided the music for the film, which will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The cast includes:

The manga series, The Blue Period, was first published in 2017 in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon seinen manga magazine. Since then, 15 volumes have been released in Japan. In 2021, the series was adapted into an anime which successfully increased its popularity. As a result, a stage play adaptation was also created in 2022.

As a sophomore in high school, Yatora Yaguchi is dissatisfied with his mundane routine. Despite appearing to be the perfect student, excelling academically and being well-liked by his peers, Yatora’s true passions lie elsewhere. Constrained by societal expectations, he harbors a hidden admiration for those who dare to deviate from the norm.
However, everything changes for him when he stumbles upon the joy of drawing. One day, he happens to wander into the art room and comes across a certain painting that immediately captures his attention. Yatora becomes enthralled by the vibrant and intricate colors used in the artwork.
Afterwards, during an art exercise, he tries to express his ideas through painting. As his passion grows, he becomes determined to pursue a career in art. However, this journey is not without its challenges: both his parents and his high school peers are uncertain about his unconventional aspirations, and the study of art is much more complex than it may seem.
