The video of BoA appearing confused after fans referred to her as “Mother”resurfaced among K-pop fans on X.
About Music’s X account shared a snippet from BoA’s live broadcast on May 16, showing her interacting with her fans, known as Jumping BoAs.
Despite being from a year ago, a specific moment in the clip recently gained popularity among K-pop fans, where BoA appears bewildered by the sudden influx of comments referring to her as “Mother.”
The use of the term “Mother”in the K-pop scene serves as a way to demonstrate immense respect and admiration for female artists who are deemed the most influential and powerful figures in their industry. This adoption of the queer term is a brief background on the topic.
Nevertheless, unaware of this information, BoA appeared bewildered and somewhat dissatisfied as she expressed her frustration:
“But why are you calling me mother? I don’t have any children. Are you trolling me by calling me mother or what? Someone answer me.”

Despite being teased, she carried on:
“That’s right. Why are you calling me mother? Am I your mother? Haha.”
She then addressed her international Jumping BoA fans and asked:
“Why do foreign fans call me mother? Why am I your mother?”
After being confused for a while, fans finally provided her with the answer and she processed what she had learned. This made her feel relieved and she couldn’t help but laugh at her previous state of cluelessness.
Nevertheless, she humbly rejected this label and stated:
“Oh, I’m the mother of K-pop? But no, there are many mother of K-pop from the older generation.”
Currently, the video has gained approximately 800k views and 30k likes. In the comments section, not only her fans but also K-pop fans were amazed by her humbleness and praised her as the true “Mother of K-pop”that they recognize and admire.
Despite being one of the first-generation K-pop idols, she not only helped popularize the music genre in Korea and Japan, but also paved the way for future generations to follow. Additionally, she has remained a prominent figure in the music industry for over two decades, continuously staying relevant.
there may have been more popular idols before here, but she’s the one who stayed relevant for 20+ years, popularized the genre, someone who saved one of the biggest kpop companies, literally none of y’all’s favs would be there without her. https://t.co/Op7K35uc13

You’re the mom of Kpop to foreigners cause we all grew up hearing your voice on inuyasha. You’re the gateway to jpop and kpop for millions of people. You’re mother. https://t.co/H3SMmjERUi

If it weren’t for her efforts in growing SM Entertainment, the current junior artists would not have had the opportunity to succeed, and other companies would not have a benchmark to follow for creating successful idols.
Conversely, some internet users find amusement in witnessing her response, mistakenly believing that her admirers were suggesting she is of advanced age and should have children, without fully understanding the intention behind their words.
When you say slay queen to BoA and she calls the cops on you for planning murderhttps://t.co/T0DxlXAcZy https://t.co/2yfMIZGJzE
