On Friday, June 21, 2024, the main promotional video for The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime was shared on the official website and X (formerly Twitter) handle. In addition to introducing important characters, the short video also revealed the opening and ending theme songs and their respective artists.
The fantasy romance anime, titled The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies, is based on the manga series by the late author Cocoa Fujiwara.
The series was produced by Studio BONES and originally serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine from September 2013 to November 2015. It consisted of 21 chapters, which were later compiled into three tankobon volumes.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant: Main Trailer Reveals Opening and Ending Theme Songs and Artists
As previously stated, the main trailer for The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime was released on Friday, June 21, 2024 by the official staff. The preview showcased the opening theme song, Mikansei Rendezvous (Incomplete Rendezvous in English), performed by Lezel, for the romance-fantasy anime.
The staff also announced that Yuki Ono and Mai Nakahara, the voice actors for Byakuya Mimori and Miller respectively, have collaborated on the ending theme song titled “Itsumo Futari Ga Li Ne,”which translates to “It’s Nice That The Two of Them are Always Together”in English.
Both the opening and ending theme songs will be made available for streaming on July 9, 2024. Interestingly, Lezel, the artist who sings the opening theme song, has left a comment on the official website for the anime.
The artist revealed that she poured her whole heart into singing the song, aiming to connect with the main character, Byakuya, and the emotions that resonate with fans of the anime.
In addition to the theme songs, the primary PV showcases never-before-seen footage from The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime. The brief video offers a glimpse into the main storyline, which follows the comical and dramatic love story between Miller (Mira), the mastermind behind an evil organization, and Byakuya Mimori, a magical girl.
As previously stated, The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2024, at 10:45 PM JST on AT-X in Japan. Subsequently, the series will also be broadcasted on Tokyo MX and BS11 channels.
The series will notably consist of 15-minute-long episodes, with a panel scheduled to take place at the Anime Expo 2024 on July 4, 2024, where the first three episodes will make their debut.
Cast and Staff for The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Anime
In this fantasy anime, Shun Miller is portrayed by Mai Nakahara, with Yuki Ono providing the voice for Byakuya Mimori. The role of Hibana is played by Mariya Ise, and Byakuya’s Angel is voiced by Shinichiro Miki. Hikaru Midorikawa takes on the role of Hibana’s angel, while Kenichi Suzumura lends his voice to Fomalhaut.
The remaining cast members comprise of Hiro Shimono as Alcyone, Ayako Kawasuni as Bellatrix, Nao Toyama as Spica, Takaya Hashi as Betelgeuse, and Takumi Yamazaki as Sedalsudh.
Akiyo Ohashi is in charge of directing the series at Studio BONES, while Haruko Iizuka serves as the character designer and Yuniko Ayana oversees the script and serves as the series composer. MAYUKO is credited as the music composer.
The anime series “The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant”revolves around Shun Miller, the mastermind of an evil organization determined to destroy Earth. However, his plans are challenged when he develops feelings for a magical girl who is dedicated to defending the planet. The show portrays an unconventional romance between these unlikely partners.
