Bonkers Horror Movie with High Rotten Tomatoes Score Set for Longlegs Double Bill

After watching Longlegs, horror enthusiasts may have discovered the ideal film to pair it with: Cuckoo, featuring Hunter Schafer as the lead.

It is undeniable that there will be a frightening contender among the top movies of 2024, regardless of what you believe to be the best. This year, horror films have stood out above all other genres, and much of that can be attributed to Neon’s releases.

Despite already having an impressive track record, Neon horror movies have truly outdone themselves this year with Immaculate and Longlegs, striking the perfect balance between unsettling and downright disturbing.

However, their work is far from over: Neon is already receiving praise from fans for their upcoming release, Cuckoo, which has garnered an impressive 81% certified fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

One fan, posting on Reddit, expressed their excitement for the upcoming film, stating that the trailer looks crazy and that they are fully on board. Another user chimed in, agreeing that the film will complete their bizarre Neon trilogy this year, along with “Immaculate”and “Longlegs.”

A third person shared their theory, stating, “I have a wild idea that this movie is somehow related to LONGLEGS lol.”

“Despite being in my ‘if the trailer doesn’t give me a clear understanding of the movie, it’s probably not worth watching’ category, I still plan on viewing it,”a fourth person shared. “However, I’ve been deceived by numerous wild and confusing trailers in the past, so I’m not particularly excited for this one.”

Featuring Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, Cuckoo depicts the story of Gretchen, a seventeen-year-old who is forced to move from America to her father’s resort in the German Alps. As she hears unsettling sounds and has disturbing visions, Gretchen uncovers a startling truth about her own family.

The new movie will be released on August 9 for US horror fans, but UK fans will have to wait until August 23.

Despite overall positive reception, initial critiques have resulted in mixed opinions among reviewers. In his article for The Cinematic Reel, David Gonzalez praised Tilman Singer’s distinctive style in Cuckoo, stating that it is worth the cost of admission. In a year filled with exceptional horror films, Cuckoo stands out as a distinct and exceptional piece.

According to Scott Phillips from Forbes, the horror thriller Cuckoo is an intense experience that requires the audience to fully immerse themselves in the story. Those who prefer more conventional plot points and character archetypes may find the film to be jarring.

Despite Jim Laczkowski from Director’s Club expressing his admiration for the intent of the film to go wild, he ultimately felt disconnected and wished for a more interesting direction instead of where it ended up. He noted that Schafer’s commitment to the project and Steven’s performance were enjoyable, but he ultimately shrugged off the film’s attempt at craziness.
