Borderlands 4: A Glimpse at the New Art Style and Upcoming Release Window

Following the success of the series’ film adaptation, the highly anticipated Borderlands 4 has been officially announced and is set to be released in 2025.

Although Borderlands 3 has received several content updates since its release almost 5 years ago, the series has been in need of a new mainline entry for quite some time.

Despite the desire of many to erase the film adaptation from memory and move forward, Borderlands 4 still has high expectations to meet in terms of its storytelling and overall presentation. While the first trailer may not provide much insight into the gameplay, it does offer some information for loyal fans to analyze.

The release window for Borderlands 4 has been confirmed for 2025. While the trailer did not specify a specific date, it is safe to say that the game will be released sometime within the year. Additionally, the trailer revealed a slight change in the art style, deviating from previous games in the series.

Despite retaining its cell-shaded appearance, the lines have become noticeably thinner and neater compared to its previous state. The overall environment now appears much more lifelike.

It is possible that the current appearance of this cinematic trailer is not indicative of the final game, and that it will resemble previous installments in the series. However, at this time, BL4 appears to deviate from its predecessors.

The trailer showcases a planet with a familiar purple glow of Eridium tearing through the sky, suggesting it is entering a different dimension. With the Vault Hunters already traversing the galaxy in Borderlands 3, dimension-hopping appears to be the only way to surpass that level of adventure.

Additionally, little information is available at this point. It can be assumed that the game will continue to feature the signature elements of Borderlands, such as a vast array of loot and weapons.

Despite the movie being a letdown for fans of the series and Borderlands 3’s storyline falling short, Borderlands 4 will need to offer something exceptional in order to win back the loyalty of its dedicated followers.
