Boruto and Kawaki’s Karmic Resonance and the Role of Shibai in Unveiling the Origins of their Dojutsu

The protagonist’s Jogan has been featured numerous times in the Boruto anime. However, the manga has yet to introduce the dojutsu in a scene other than the flash-forward. In contrast, both the anime and manga have showcased Kawaki’s dojutsu, Kokugan.

This varying rate of growth for the two characters implies that the two dojutsu are not related to each other. Yet, there is a possibility that this is not entirely accurate, as a theory suggests that both dojutsu may have originated from a single entity. This idea is also supported by the karmic resonance shared between Boruto and Kawaki.

Please note: This article may reveal plot details from the Boruto manga.

According to a theory proposed by Reddit user u/ILOVEcBJS, Boruto’s Jogan and Kawaki’s Kokugan may have both been inherited from Shibai. This could explain the strong resonance between their karma.

According to Amado’s explanation, it is well-known that Shibai Otsutsuki had Rinnegan, Senrigan, and Byakugan. However, transplanting DNA taken from his remains only grants “one or more of his abilities.”This indicates that the manifestation of the Otsutsuki God’s powers is not guaranteed by transplanting Shibai’s remains, but rather, it may result in the acquisition of new abilities.

The origins of Kawaki and Boruto’s dojutsu have been suggested by various sources. Kawaki inherited the Kokugan dojutsu from Isshiki Otsutsuki, while Momoshiki Otsutsuki implied that the Jogan dojutsu belonged to their clan.

It is possible that Isshiki Otsutsuki possessed two Byakugan eyes, but it is speculated that he obtained the Kokugan from Shibai after Amado transplanted the Otsutsuki God’s remains into him.

This characteristic aligns with Kawaki’s ambitious nature, similar to Isshiki’s thirst for power. Instead of following the Shinobi path, Kawaki turned to Amado for enhancements. It is possible that Isshiki also took this approach and had Amado alter him.

Boruto has not yet shown his dojutsu in the manga, possibly because he has chosen to follow a difficult path as a shinobi who is considered an outcast. He dedicated three years to daily training and made a conscious decision not to rely on his karma during battles. It is likely that this is the reason why, even though he possesses the dojutsu, he has yet to display it in the manga.

Although the exact origins of their dojutsu cannot be determined, it is likely that Boruto and Kawaki’s abilities are linked to Shibai in some manner, resulting in their karma resonating with each other.

Finally, there is also Code with the White Karma, potentially symbolizing the remaining parts of Shibai’s body other than his head. This could explain his ability to manifest Claw Marks and infuse his chakra into the Ten Tails, resulting in the formation of Claw Grimes which can ultimately transform into God Trees upon biting a target.
