Boruto avoids the worst possible mistake by giving Himawari the Nine Tails

After the end of the Naruto series, Boruto became the new main protagonist. While many expected the sequel to solely revolve around him, it also introduced Naruto’s second child, Himawari. Despite having greater potential than her brother, Himawari was unfortunately underutilized and remained one of the most intriguing characters in the series.

Despite her severe lack of scenes, fans grew anxious that Himawari would eventually be sidelined from the story. However, in the latest chapter 9 of the Blue Vortex manga, she was successfully integrated back into the storyline, alleviating any worries among the fanbase.

Please note that spoilers for the Boruto Two Blue Vortex series are included in this article.

Boruto: Himawari’s Increased Involvement in Two Blue Vortex

Himawari quickly became a fan favorite upon her introduction in the Boruto series, and this admiration only grew when it was revealed that she, not Naruto’s first son, had inherited the Byakugan.

The Last: Naruto the Movie delved into Hinata’s connection to Hamura Ohtsutsuki through her Byakugan. This story arc could potentially tie in with Himawari’s character, particularly as the series has placed a greater emphasis on the Otsutsuki clan.

Despite being a fan-favorite character, Himawari’s appearances mainly consisted of slice-of-life elements or were limited to filler episodes. This caused concern among fans that the series would neglect Naruto’s second child and only focus on his first.

Throughout most of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations narrative, Himawari’s role remained passive. Despite being a crucial character in the series, she was often overshadowed due to her identity as Naruto’s daughter.

Chapter 9 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex revealed Himawari and the InoShikaCho group’s escape from the God Trees as Jura attempted to attack Himawari with a Tailed-Beast bomb. During their retreat, Himawari was suddenly transported to the tailed-beast mental plane, where she encountered a young Kurama.

Himawari was officially chosen as the next jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, as the mental plane of the tailed-beast could only be accessed by jinchurikis and the tailed-beasts themselves. Like Naruto, who had learned to control the Nine-Tails’ chakra with the guidance of Killer Bee, Himawari would also have the opportunity to master its chakra as a jinchuriki.

In chapter 9 of the Two Vortex series, the baby Kurama seemed to be quite comfortable with Himawari. This suggests that Kurama may have retained memories of his past life as Naruto’s jinchuriki. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too difficult for Himawari to learn how to control Kurama’s chakra.

The revival of Kurama inside Himawari has been deemed a very convenient random event by a large part of the Naruto fanbase. However, the concept of Naruto’s first child, Himawari, being connected to Kurama and eventually becoming a jinchuriki has been a consistent plot point, as evident by their shared whiskers.

Despite the current focus on Boruto and Kawaki’s stories, Himawari’s transformation into the Nine-Tails jinchuriki ensures that one of the story’s most important characters will not be sidelined. While she will not suddenly become the central figure, this development allows her to play a more active role in the story.

Final Thoughts

Although Himawari’s recent transition into the Nine-Tails jinchuriki is a major development, her ultimate path is still unknown. It is possible that her role may become reduced to simply being a tool to advance the plot, especially if her relationship with Kurama takes precedence over her own personal growth.

As the release date of May 20, 2024 for chapter 10 of the Blue Vortex manga approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating how Himawari’s journey will unfold and if she will finally break free from the sidelines and create her own path.
