Boruto Could Be Getting a Folklore Twist in the Form of Kawaki’s True Abilities

Throughout the majority of the series, Boruto and Kawaki have been experiencing similar situations, and it appears evident that the latter is gradually transitioning into a villain as the plot unfolds. Despite the manga solidifying his role as an adversary, many fans are anticipating a redemption arc for him. However, a recent fan theory proposes a different potential outcome.

As the recent events in the manga have shown, Boruto has grown in both strength and determination. However, there are also indications that Kawaki may be succumbing to his own inner darkness. This fan theory draws a connection between the manga’s themes of the sun and the moon and the werewolf concept, highlighting how the moon can drive a creature towards violence.

Please be aware that this article includes spoilers for the series.

Explaining how Kawaki’s evolution in Boruto could be connected to the myths of the werewolf and Norse mythology

The theory proposes that the moon does not emit its own light, but rather reflects the light of the sun. The other side of the moon is often referred to as “the dark side.”This can be interpreted as a representation of Eida’s desire to meet the protagonist (the sun), while Kawaki represents the dark side where no light is reflected. Additionally, the theory connects this concept to the Ten-Tails being a wolf, and suggests that Isshiki, whose DNA is now in Kawaki, may serve as an explanation for this theme, as all three are intertwined.

According to this theory, Fenrir, the legendary wolf in Norse mythology, will mirror Kawaki’s descent into evil, as he is said to be one of the beings responsible for the Norse apocalypse, Ragnarok. This suggests that Kawaki may ultimately bring about the end of the shinobi world as it is known.

Essentially, this theory suggests that Kawaki will eventually succumb to his intense hatred and desire for destruction, potentially due to various factors such as Eida’s potential favoritism towards the main character. This could also potentially foreshadow Kawaki’s role as the ultimate antagonist of the series, although this is currently based on mere speculation.

Possible Outcomes in the Upcoming Chapters

The upcoming installments of Boruto Two Blue Vortex are expected to center around the confrontations between Himawari and Jura, and Sarada Uchiha and Hidari. These two Konoha shinobi have strong motivations to face the Shinju clones, making this their first opportunity to showcase their abilities during the timeskip. As a result, author Masashi Kishimoto may choose to prioritize their storylines.

Despite being easily pushed aside by the clones, it is probable that Kawaki will also play a significant role in the story. Many fans believe that Kawaki has not been developed enough during the timeskip and there is a possibility that Kishimoto will address this in upcoming chapters.

Final thoughts

It is possible that Kawaki’s character development in Boruto draws inspiration from the werewolf, representing the dark side of the moon with no reflection of light. However, as this is merely a theory, it should be taken with caution by the fandom.
