Boruto Fans Celebrate Anime’s Latest Achievement, Which May Be the Most Impressive Yet

Despite having a promising start with the well-animated mixed-filler-canon arc, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime series quickly lost its momentum due to the frequent shift to pure filler content. As a result, many fans began to lose interest and stopped watching.

Despite containing only a few animation clips, the series maintained its high animation standards for the highly anticipated moments and fights. However, it did not cover the entire manga series and ended, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the anime’s return.

The 2024 sales report, which was shared by @UzuRepo, may have rekindled the optimism of Naruto Next Generations fans. According to the Financial Report for the Full Fiscal Year, the series claimed the second spot, surpassing Bleach and Pokémon in the top 5 rankings.

Boruto Anime Ranked Number 2 in the Financial Report for the Full Fiscal Year

The X user posted TV Tokyo’s Financial Report for the Full Fiscal Year until March 2024 (including the first three months of 2024). The report included data on the combined sales of anime series’ Blu-ray & DVD sets, merchandise, and all other activities related to their brand (rights business).

According to the X user, the total sales for this year were 20,971 million yen, with the majority (82.6%) coming from overseas markets (17,321 million yen). The remaining 17.% of sales, totaling 3,650 million yen, were generated within Japan.

According to TV Tokyo’s Financial Report for the Full Fiscal Year ending in March 2024, North America accounted for the largest share of sales at 29.4%. The most successful anime series during this period were:

  1. Naruto
  2. Boruto
  3. The popular anime and manga series Yu-Gi-Oh! follows the adventures of a young boy named Yugi and his friends as they participate in a card game that unleashes the powers of ancient Egyptian gods.
  4. Pokémon
  5. Bleach

The user known as X also shared details about additional series that did not make the top 5 list. They reported a significant increase in distribution for the Spy x Family series and a rise in sales for the Black Clover Game (Rise of the Wizard King) both in Japan and internationally. Additionally, Naruto was reported to be performing strongly overseas.

Despite the presence of other shocking series in the top 5 anime list, viewers were thrilled to see the Boruto anime rank so highly. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the same studio behind its predecessor Naruto, the series boasts an impressive 293 episodes.

Despite the anime’s conclusion on March 26, 2023, there has been no announcement of a sequel as of the time this article was published. However, given the series’ impressive ratings, fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of a sequel in the near future.

As anticipated, fans of the Naruto Next Generations anime began to draw comparisons with other series that they hold in high regard, such as Bleach. In 2022, Bleach made its long-awaited return after almost a decade, with the adaptation of its final arc, the Thousand Year Blood War.

The list featured in this tweet may be for the original Bleach series that aired 10 years ago, as it did not specify that it was from the most recent adaptation. Additionally, many fans were eagerly anticipating the anime adaptation of the sequel series, Naruto Next Generations: Two Blue Vortex.

“Boruto owns Bleach,”a fan claimed.

“Damn bleach really got owned by demon slayer now boruto?”another fan said.

“Waiting for peak release. ..tv tokyo after releasing two blue vortex,”another one said.

Additionally, fans were perplexed about the low ranking of other anime series, particularly Bleach and Black Clover. Despite the fact that Black Clover’s sequel, a movie, was released in 2023 and the series concluded in 2021, it still received a lower ranking.

As previously stated, Bleach’s low ranking could be attributed to its outdated statistics being used for the old anime rather than the new one. Additionally, Black Clover did not make the list due to its series ending in 2023 and its game being the sole source of income in 2024.

In addition, a fan pointed out that the high score for the Naruto Next Generation series can be attributed to Naruto, and even went as far as to suggest that the former anime may have faced cancellation without the latter series.

“This makes no sense, why is bleach at bottom,”a fan stated.

“I don’t see black clover anywhere,”another one stated.

“BURRITO being carried by Naruto. Otherwise it would have been cancelled lmao,”another fan stated.

Despite having good sales in 2024, the Naruto Next Generations anime series has not yet received a sequel adaptation. This is because the overall sales of an anime are crucial in determining whether or not it will get a sequel, and even after almost a year, this series has not been granted one.

This may be due to Studio Pierrot’s busy schedule with other highly anticipated anime projects, such as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, which could be the reason for the delay in Boruto’s production.
