Boruto fans have a big problem with the manga

After facing heavy criticism, the Boruto manga is finally starting to receive its fair share of praise. However, some fans believe that there is still a big problem with the work.

Boruto is the sequel to Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto manga, which has become a true classic among shonen fans, and this time we follow the adventures of the next generation. The manga was first written by Ukyō Kodachi, while Mikio Ikemoto drew the drawings, the project being supervised by Kishimoto himself. However, following Kodachi’s departure at the end of 2020, it was the original mangaka who finally took over the reins of the story by returning to his role as screenwriter.

Boruto initially disappointed readers and was heavily criticized. But the manga managed to improve and ended up winning over fans over the years. However, they believe that the manga’s art style, especially in the fight scenes, does not do the story justice.

Being a shonen type manga, there are a lot of fights in Boruto and some are highly anticipated. But fans feel that the art style of the fight scenes diminishes the seriousness of these battles. Comparing Boruto’s fight scenes with Naruto’s, the differences become obvious to some.

According to Boruto fans, the main problem with the fight scenes is that there isn’t enough damage dealt during fights, even when the characters are supposed to be incredibly strong. Furthermore, others argue that the choreography of the fights is also one of the elements with which the manga struggles.

Speaking about this issue, one fan commented on Reddit: “All we really have are statements from the author about how strong the characters are when they barely do any damage.”Another netizen then pointed out Ikemoto’s work, saying, “I think it’s a pretty well-known fact that his style is pretty mediocre compared to Kishi.”

An opinion shared by another user, who commented: “Kishi’s art is divine. Ikemoto’s art is bad, but I like his designs. I also agree. Have you noticed that there is a generic flying kick in every Ikemoto fight?”

In the vast majority of cases, the fight scenes that we can see in a shonen are often one of the key elements of the work. It is these sequences that will attract part of the public, and this is why many fans pay special attention to them. It remains to be seen whether the fight scenes will improve in Boruto Chapter 9 -Two Blue Vortex-, which will be available from April 18, 2024 on MANGA Plus.
