Boruto harnesses the full power of Kurama in breath-taking official artwork

After detecting Kurama’s chakra within Himawari during the events of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Jura’s fans were left pondering the significance of Kishimoto’s official artwork featuring the new Team 7. The artwork depicted the protagonist in a manner that suggested he may possess the powers of the Nine-tails.

During that period, there was speculation among fans that this chakra could be the inheritance of the protagonist from his father, Naruto Uzumaki, even though no one had witnessed such a phenomenon before.

Despite Momoshiki taunting Naruto about his inability to pass down his powers to his successors, this could potentially foreshadow a connection between the Nine-tails’ powers and inheritance. However, it is possible that this was simply a mistake on the author’s part, as the character design was created in 2016 and the protagonist had not yet awakened his Karma at that time.

Fans Speculate About Boruto Uzumaki’s Potential Kurama Powers After Masashi Kishimoto’s Old Artwork Surfaces

In 2016, when the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga series began serialization, Masashi Kishimoto released an official artwork featuring the new Team 7. The artwork featured Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha, and Mitsuki showcasing their awakened abilities.

Sarada possessed the Uchiha clan’s Kekkai Genkai, the Sharingan, while Mitsuki possessed the Sage mode. The protagonist also had chakra similar to his father’s Nine-tails form, known as Kurama-like chakra, surrounding his body.

In the series Naruto Next Generation, the antagonist Momoshiki Otsutsuki taunted Naruto for his inability to pass down his powers to future generations. However, in a later episode, the protagonist was able to defeat and ultimately kill Momoshiki, who had previously implanted a Karma onto him. This mark then allowed the spirit of the Otsutsuki to reside within the protagonist’s body.

After a few episodes, Kawaki was introduced as a new character who possessed the Karma of another Otsutsuki, Ishiki Otsutsuki. Naruto extended an invitation for Kawaki to live in his house, but things were initially tense between the two. However, they eventually found a way to coexist peacefully. The protagonist continued to be visited by Momoshiki, who warned him about the potential danger of his powerful eyes.

Following Ishiki’s demise at the hands of Naruto’s Baryon mode, the Otsutsuki implanted their will into Code, a fellow individual similar to Kawaki. Seizing this opportunity, Code activated Eida, one of Ishiki’s experiments. With her Omnipotence ability, Eida began to manipulate events and transformed Kawaki into an Uzumaki and the protagonist into an outsider.

Seizing the opportunity, Kawaki used his powers to trap Naruto and Hinata and falsely accuse the main character of their murder. This event marked the conclusion of Naruto Next Generations and the beginning of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. In chapter 8 of the new series, Jura, one of the God Trees, appeared in the Hidden Leaf Village in pursuit of Naruto and made his way towards Himawari, drawn by the Nine-tails’ chakra.

Despite Kishimoto’s early sketch of the protagonist showcasing the Nine-tails’ chakra, this was contradicted by the possibility of Himawari inheriting the tailed beast chakra. Fans have speculated that the Nine-Tail chakra in the sketch may have actually belonged to the protagonist’s father, making the inheritance of tailed beast chakra a hereditary trait.

Additionally, the sketch depicted the protagonist’s Kurama form without slit eyeballs, usually a key identifier of the Nine-tails chakra, instead displaying the distinctive Byakugan. This suggests that his transformation may be a fusion of the Nine-tails’ chakra and his Otsutsuki chakra, specifically Momoshiki’s Karma.
