Kawaki’s Kokugan, also referred to as the “Black Eye”or “Dark Eye,”bears a striking resemblance to Boruto’s Doujutsu, known as the Jogan. This comparison draws attention to an intriguing parallel between the two.
The Jogan, also referred to as the “Pure Eye,”stands in stark contrast to Kawaki’s Black Eye. This comparison is often seen as a representation of the “Hope vs Despair”theme commonly found in shonen animanga series.
Similarly, in the series, the relationship between Kawaki and Boruto can be likened to the intertwined coexistence of light and dark. Kawaki has consistently been the one willing to walk a darker path, fueled by revenge and animosity, in order to safeguard those he holds dear.
Despite his admiration and respect for Naruto Uzumaki, Kawaki’s ultimate objective is to eliminate Boruto, even if it means risking the hatred of the person he holds in high regard. He feels indebted to Naruto for saving his life as the Seventh Hokage and has demonstrated his unwavering determination to protect Naruto throughout the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
In contrast, Boruto has always been open about expressing his affection and love for his comrades. He has consciously chosen a path free from hatred. In fact, every decision he makes is infused with hope, as he strives to protect and stay by the side of those he cares for.
Hence, it can be said that Kawaki and Boruto embody the emotions of despair and hope, in that order. Their eyes, being a reflection of their personalities, serve as symbols of these ideas in the manga. In this light, one could perceive Kawaki’s eyes as revealing the bleakness of the world, while Boruto’s eyes reflect a brighter, more optimistic perspective.
