Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s Divine Trees May Be Inspired from Black Clover in a Way Most People Miss

Since the start of the serialization of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, fans have been overjoyed. This is due to their anticipation for the time skip, which was hinted at in the beginning of the Naruto Next Generations manga series in 2016. As a result, each chapter continues to excite and engage fans, leading them to theorize and discuss for days on end.

Despite the excitement surrounding the series, there are also discussions within different fan communities about the level of creativity of manga author Masashi Kishimoto. Some fans attempt to portray him as the most innovative manga creator, but others counter by highlighting the influence of various other manga on the early developments of Naruto.

Despite its popularity, even Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has faced accusations that it may have taken inspiration from Black Clover’s Paladins by incorporating the concept of Divine Trees.

Please be aware that this article includes spoilers from the manga of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and Black Clover.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex: How Divine Trees may have been inspired by Paladins

In August 2022, Yuki Tabata introduced the idea of Paladins in the Black Clover manga, which many fans may recall. Using his Soul Magic, Lucius Zogratis was able to cleanse devils and bestow their abilities upon humans, transforming them into archangels known as Paladins.

In addition to being able to turn living individuals into Paladins, Lucius had the power to transform deceased humans into Paladins as well. The manga depicted Lucius converting both virtuous individuals and former antagonists into Paladins. However, these converted Paladins did not maintain their original human personalities as they were completely controlled by Lucius and forced to follow his desires.

Furthermore, during Judgement Day, the Paladins did not engage in battles with every Magic Knight they encountered. Rather, they focused on those who had a personal connection to them in their human form or those who piqued their interest in their current form. This was made clear by Morgen Faust’s pursuit of Yami Sukehiro and Jack the Ripper, Acier Silva’s targeting of her own children, and Morris Libardirt’s fixation on Mereoleona Vermillion.

Therefore, looking back, Paladins were adversaries that could embody any character from the series. Their individual traits were distinct from their human personas and they sought out individuals who intrigued them.

In August 2023, Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto began publishing the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, which introduced the Divine Trees as antagonists. These antagonists could potentially be based on any character from the series.

In order to become a Claw Grime, a character had to be alive and be bitten. Although the reasoning for deceased characters has not been revealed, Jura’s monologue in chapter 4 hinted that he may have been inspired by a past deceased character. Some fans have theorized that Jura’s character may have been influenced by either Isshiki Otsutsuki or Jigen.

Similarly to the Paladins, the Divine Trees also did not retain their original human personalities and instead targeted individuals who had a previous connection to them. This was exemplified by Hidari targeting Sarada, Matsuri targeting Konohamaru, and Mamushi targeting Eida.

After the events of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 13, some fans may argue that the storyline involving Divine Trees was foreshadowed since the beginning of the Naruto Next Generations manga. However, these developments could also be seen as potentially being influenced by other sources.

The reason for this is that Kashin Koji’s Prescience ability was not revolutionary, as it had already been utilized by Dr. Strange in Avengers: Endgame. Similar to Dr. Strange, Lucius Zogratis in Black Clover also employed Time Magic to foresee various timelines and strategically select the most advantageous path for his goals.

As a result, fans of Masashi Kishimoto may now have another manga, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, to defend against accusations from other fanbases with the latest developments.
