Boruto’s Explanation for Lack of Strong Fighters in Two Blue Vortex

Ever since the beginning of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga series, it has been apparent to fans that all characters, except for the protagonist, have been struggling in their battles against the antagonists. Initially, it was believed that this was a trait only found in Kawaki, but as the manga has progressed, it has become clear that other characters have also become ineffective.

Despite the protagonist being the only character shown to have trained during the three-year time skip, fans were not pleased with this development. It seemed unlikely that the other characters would not have also improved in some way. To address this issue, a Boruto fan came up with a theory to explain the developments in the manga.

In a Reddit post by user u/0cTony, a Boruto fan suggests that the current events in the Two Blue Vortex manga may have been foreshadowed by the protagonist in the opening chapter’s flash-forward scene.

Boruto’s declaration:

“The age of Shinobi shall end.”

In the manga’s opening chapter, the protagonist declared that the era of shinobi had come to an end. As this was a flash-forward, it is possible that the protagonist’s statement reflected his observations throughout the story.

The fan speculated that the series began with this statement to establish the overarching theme, as the “way of the shinobi”appeared to be inadequate in defeating the antagonists of the series.

It was clear that none of the shinobi possessed enough strength to defeat an Otsutsuki-level threat. As fans may recall, Madara Uchiha was able to single-handedly battle Eight-Gates Might Guy, all the Kages, all the Jinchuriki, Sage Mode + Kurama Chakra Mode Naruto, and Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan Sasuke Uchiha.

Kaguya Otsutsuki was the only person capable of defeating him. This meant that characters such as Sarada Uchiha, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and even Himawari Uzumaki would not stand a chance against Otsutsuki-level threats, if Madara Uchiha himself could not defeat them. As the antagonists were at this level, ninjutsu would prove to be ineffective against them. It appeared that the “Age of Shinobi”was truly coming to an end.

Kawaki also subscribed to this idea, as he never truly embraced the “way of the Shinobi”and instead relied on his Karma to overcome his opponents. It was believed that only those with immense strength could effectively use ninjutsu against Otsutsuki-level threats, which did not seem to be the case for the characters in the Two Blue Vortex manga.

Therefore, according to the fan’s perspective, all characters besides the protagonist may soon have to depend on ninja technology in order to survive against the God Trees. This is due to the fact that being solely a ninja may no longer be a viable choice.

Maybe Boruto’s statement “But I am still a shinobi”was because he was the sole remaining individual capable of harnessing powerful techniques such as ninjutsu, kinjutsu, and dojutsu to combat the Otsutsuki-level dangers. This would explain why none of the other characters appear to possess great fighting abilities in the opening flashback, if Boruto’s words were meant to hint at what was to come.
