Boruto’s Possible Desire for Kawaki to Defeat Him: Understanding the Reasoning Behind It

The release date for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 15 is approaching, with fans eagerly anticipating its debut on Monday, October 21, 2024. In the days leading up to the official release, however, spoilers and raw scans have emerged, revealing significant plot points—particularly regarding the alliance formed between Boruto and Kawaki as they combat the Shinju.

Although these two users of Karma are joining forces against a shared adversary, tensions remain palpable between them. This is highlighted by Kawaki’s probing questions to his adoptive brother concerning Momoshiki. Intriguingly, indications suggest that not only is Kawaki embroiled in this conflict, but Boruto himself may also harbor a desire for Kawaki to ultimately defeat him. What does this imply for the characters’ development?

Could Boruto’s Suggestion to Confront Amado Indicate His Desire for Defeat?

From the outset, particularly after the flash-forward in the inaugural chapter, Kawaki displayed a clear antagonism towards Boruto. At that time, the reasons behind his hostility were unclear, but it was later unveiled that he aimed to eliminate Boruto to protect Naruto Uzumaki from the dangers posed by Momoshiki Otsutsuki.

This drive led Kawaki to previously kill Boruto and embark on a relentless quest to eliminate the Otsutsuki menace. He had consistently pursued the Momoshiki host until their recent alliance to confront the sentient God Trees.

As expected, despite their decision to work together, Kawaki’s relationship with Boruto remained strained since he recognized that Boruto’s living presence endangered Naruto’s safety. It was at this juncture that Boruto suggested that once they had dealt with Jura and the God Trees, Kawaki would have the opportunity to eliminate him if Momoshiki seized control again.

While at first glance this might seem like a mere delay tactic by Boruto, evidence points to a deeper wish for Kawaki to actualize his potential and eventually defeat him.

From the latest chapter, it’s clear that Boruto seeks to empower Kawaki for the battle against the Shinju. This led him to prompt Kawaki to interrogate Amado regarding his limiters. Amado had modified Kawaki’s attack, defense, and regeneration capabilities to ensure his survival, which implies that Kawaki’s actual strength remains untapped due to these adjustments.

By encouraging Kawaki to confront Amado about these limiters, Boruto could indeed be seeking to bolster Kawaki’s strength. However, his motivations may extend beyond just defeating the Shinju. It seems plausible that Boruto desires Kawaki to grow powerful enough to challenge him in the future.

Recalling previous chapters, Boruto’s fear grew when his Karma activated unpredictably. This fear of losing control to Momoshiki could explain why he would want Kawaki to gain the strength needed to defeat him, should such a scenario arise.
