Renowned boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. has addressed the swirling rumors regarding a potential matchup with Jake Paul, rumored to take place on March 8. The speculation has intensified following Paul’s recent victory over the legendary ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson in November, prompting a flurry of challenges from numerous boxers, both past and present.
Among those expressing interest are heavyweight contender ‘Dynamite’ Daniel Dubois, unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, and retired star Carl Froch, with Dubois even suggesting the possibility of a world title bout.
As of now, the ‘Problem Child’ has yet to finalize his next fight. However, the rumor mill continues to churn out various reports about potential opponents.
Roy Jones Jr. Responds to Fight Speculation
Earlier this year, social media platforms buzzed with claims of an eight-round fight between Jake Paul and the multi-division world champion Roy Jones Jr., who has a history with Tyson. In light of these assertions, Jones Jr. has come forward to clarify the situation.
In a statement shared via Instagram, Jones expressed his admiration for Paul’s contributions to boxing and acknowledged the hard work he has put into honing his skills. He stated, “This post has cost me many restless nights due to people wondering. LISTEN……… I love what Jake has done for our sport. I also love the time and effort that he’s put forth to develop his craft.”
Jones continued, highlighting his significance as a contender having faced Tyson last and suggested he could be an appealing opponent. Nonetheless, he emphasized, “I have not been contacted about any of these allegations so it is NOT A REALITY at this point in time. For the record – just like in my prime, I’m always JUST A CALL ‘OUT’ away.”
Despite Jake Paul’s assertion that his fight against Tyson could have been a capstone to his boxing career, he has since unveiled a list of ten potential opponents, further demonstrating his intent to remain active in the ring.
While a bout between Paul and Jones Jr. seems unlikely at the moment, the unpredictable nature of boxing leaves room for future developments.
