Penelope’s arc in the third season of Bridgerton may have taken some slight departures from the book, but viewers unanimously agree that the finale truly showcased the character in her well-deserved spotlight.
The conclusion of Penelope’s years of concealing her identity as Mayfair’s Lady Whistledown is ultimately disclosed to the Ton in the finale of Bridgerton Season 3. The timid introvert emerges from obscurity to reveal the truth to all.
Despite Cressida Cowper’s interference, it was inevitable that Penelope would eventually reveal herself during her sisters’ ball due to the Queen’s persistence.
Penelope explains to everyone that she adopted the persona of Lady Whistledown as a means of finding purpose in a life where she was constantly overlooked. She states that her penchant for gossip stemmed from her fascination and admiration for those who lived their lives without fear or secrecy.
The Queen ultimately permits Penelope to carry on her duties as Lady Whistledown, however, this outcome differs from what occurs in the book.
Colin, not Penelope, is the one who bravely chooses to reveal the truth to their families and the Ton. He does this in order to safeguard Penelope from the Queen’s schemes and to put an end to Cressida’s deceit.
According to all reports, the scene depicts a loving act from a husband who wishes to safeguard his wife and showcase Penelope’s exceptional talent. Fans were delighted with the alterations made to the storyline in Season 3.
ppl wished that colin should’ve done his speech defending penelope to the ton like he did in the book, but pen standing up for HERSELF on HER OWN is so much better for meso empowering to watch and it perfectly aligns to penelope asking colin to support her, NOT do things for me pic.twitter.com/PTnQO1BP8L

Despite the decision to change the book scene, many viewers remained puzzled. One fan even pointed out, “I noticed that Colin didn’t announce who LW was in the show, unlike in the book. As a book fan, I initially had the same question, but after rewatching the scene multiple times, I have reached a conclusion.”
“This scene serves as a crucial moment in Penelope’s character development. Her ultimate desire has always been to gain confidence and discover the bravery that Colin praises shortly after. This has been a recurring theme since before the events of LW, as the story has been centered around her journey to find her voice and learn to use it.”
Despite not shouting, Colin’s pride in Penelope is evident to her even without vocal expression. What truly matters to Penelope is having Colin by her side as she bravely breaks out of her shell and becomes the person she wants to be. That, for her, is enough.
Undoubtedly, Bridgerton Season 3 portrayed a gradual transition from friendship to love between the characters, but it also served as a pivotal moment for Penelope.
For years, fans observed as she reluctantly donned clothing she disliked, had only one acquaintance, was branded a spinster with no potential suitors, and harbored unrequited feelings for Colin.
Penelope is now held in high esteem as a talented writer and happily married to the love of her life. She is cherished by the Ton, and has the love and support of two families. Penelope has emerged victorious.
