Bridgerton showrunner hints skipped over character could lead Season 4

Netflix’s successful show Bridgerton is scheduled to release its third season, and although it has yet to air, showrunner Jess Brownell is already teasing the potential star of Season 4.

In addition to the highly anticipated friends-to-lovers storyline between Colin and Penelope, Bridgerton Season 3 will also provide clues as to who will take the lead in Season 4, according to showrunner Jess Brownell.

The show is adapted from a collection of novels written by Julia Quinn, and it depicts the Bridgerton family’s attempts to navigate the annual London marriage season with all eight siblings.

Up to this point, the series has adhered to the sequence of events in the book: Season 1 delves into Daphne’s romantic journey, followed by Season 2 which centers on Anthony’s. However, Season 3 caught viewers off guard by skipping over Benedict and shifting focus to Colin. However, it appears that Brownell is teasing that Benedict’s story may be told in the near future.

During an interview with TV Insider, Brownell was slyly asked if Season 3 would introduce the lead for Season 4. In response, she stated, “That’s a clever question. You essentially asked me what Season 4 will be about.”

“I will not provide any direct information, but I do believe that there are hints in the Season 3 finale that indicate our future direction. Therefore, I leave it to the fans to analyze, but I do think we have revealed a small portion of our plans.”

It is plausible that Benedict could have been foreshadowed as the central focus of Season 4 during the third season. In Season 2, he was given more standalone plotlines, leading many viewers to speculate that he would be the next main character, prior to the announcement of Polin taking on that role.

Despite the viewers’ desire for the show to follow the book order, the potential obstacles of Eloise and Francesca Bridgerton could prevent this plan from being realized.

In Season 3, both Eloise (Book 5) and Francesca (Book 6) will have a more significant presence. Eloise’s bond with Penelope is deteriorating, and Francesca is preparing to make her entrance into the marriage world.

Similarly to Benedict, Eloise’s book love interest has not yet been introduced. However, Francesca’s could potentially be introduced as she makes her debut in London and meets eligible men.

When Bridgerton Part 1 premieres on May 16 and Part 2 premieres on June 13, fans should make sure to watch closely for any Season 4 hints that may be revealed.
