Bro thinks he’s Yuji Itadori: Hyunjin’s Met Gala outfit turns him into Jujutsu Kaisen main character

Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, is widely considered to be one of the most impactful characters in modern shonen anime. His cheerful demeanor and appearance have propelled his fame, and many individuals draw inspiration from his character when they begin their cosplaying endeavors.

Despite previous instances, this time it is Hyunjin, a member of the group Stray Kids who is garnering attention for his outfit at the 2024 Met Gala, as fans have noticed his striking resemblance to the protagonist from Jujutsu Kaisen. This has caused social media users to jokingly comment things like “Bro thinks he’s Yuji Itadori.”

Naturally, a segment of the anime and manga community who are avid followers of Korean Pop Music also had their own thoughts on the subject. They turned to X to voice their opinions.

The Met Gala is renowned as one of the largest fashion events in the world, with invitations being highly coveted. Hosted by Vogue magazine, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, situated in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Why were fans reacting to Hyunjin’s Met Gala outfit and its potential connection to the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen?

As a popular member of the K-pop industry, Hyunjin has helped propel Stray Kids to success. With their rising popularity, the band’s invitation to the Met Gala was highly anticipated by fans who were eager to see their favorite artists showcase their unique style through specially designed outfits.

Nevertheless, the attire worn by the South Korean rapper bore a striking resemblance to that of the Jujutsu Kaisen MC.

Despite donning a Jujutsu High uniform, Yuji Itadori puts his own spin on it with a unique style. Hyunjin’s Met Gala ensemble seemed to draw inspiration from the red-hooded navy blue uniform, complete with a striking gold button.

During the Met Gala, Hyunjin wore a navy blue long-sleeve jacket with a red collar. His outfit also included a lapel flower that was similar in color and size to the golden button seen on Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen, leading fans to believe that his outfit was influenced by the anime’s main character.

Fan Reaction to Hyunjin’s Met Gala Outfit

It is evident that most netizens had valid grounds to suspect that Hyunjin had attempted to dress up as the main character from Jujutsu Kaisen. The resemblance cannot be ignored, as there are numerous identical elements shared between the two outfits.

“Why’s he cosplaying yuji,”said one fan.

“I legit thought he cosplayed itadori yuji,”said another.

“Bro pulling that yuji cosplay to the met gala,”said one netizen.

Although it is uncertain if the South Korean rapper intentionally cosplayed as Yuji Itadori, it is clear that his designer drew inspiration from the beloved shonen anime character.

Despite the brand’s efforts, many fans were dissatisfied with the outfit for several reasons. One of the primary reasons was that it did not align with the theme of this year’s event – Garden of Time. Fans expressed their disappointment with the styling and criticized the brand for their lackluster execution.

“Why doesn’t it fit the theme??”said one fan.

“Because unfortunately he was styled by tommy hillfiger and that brand never styles their celebrity reps correctly. always boring, mediocre, and off theme.”said another.

“No one cares omg they look so basic,”said one netizen.

Although certain fans were excited to see their beloved rapper donning a similar outfit to Yuji’s, the final outcome was rather disappointing, especially in relation to the overall theme of this year’s Met Gala.
