BTD6 Update Version 42: Full Patch Notes Listed

The latest update for Bloons TD 6 on mobile devices and PC brings new quests, items, and a significant number of balance adjustments to the game. Below are the complete patch notes for the Version 42 update of Bloons TD 6.

BTD6 Update Version 42: Comprehensive Patch Notes

Bloons TD 6’s latest update, Version 42, includes a plethora of enhancements, with the most noteworthy being the ability to grant Accolades to creators of player content. These creators will receive 35-50% of the revenue from their gifted Accolades. These animated symbols will be displayed on the player’s map or challenge whenever they are playing.

The PlayStation release of the game, which was originally scheduled for early April, has been slightly postponed according to developer Ninja Kiwi. However, the launch is still imminent and an official date will be announced as soon as possible. Additionally, the developer has plans to release a content update for both the Xbox and PlayStation versions after the PlayStation launch, which will include new maps and heroes.

  • Accolades and Player Revenue Share
    • We are so excited to bring the success of BTD6 back to players and share revenue with players who are helping in making the game more awesomer!
    • The system allows players to gift player creators with animating Accolades that will follow their map or challenge wherever they are seen in game.
    • The initial 12 Accolades express a variety of positive reactions to inspiring content, such as Smart, Tricky, Beautiful, Fun, Masterpiece, and more!
    • At launch and for the foreseeable future we’ll be sharing 35% of the Accolade purchase price with the player creator, which means 50% if they are also a content creator and you are using their Creator Code. This is an industry leading share amount, which we aim to maintain; after the platform fees, Ninja Kiwi and Nexus.gg have the smallest shares of these purchases, as they truly are meant for the player creators.
    • Revenue share is available on platforms with IAP systems. We’ve tried to make Accolades receivable wherever possible, but we must restrict this to players who register with Nexus according to their terms and to players on non-subscription platforms. We are looking for solutions for subscription players but this will take significant time.

Amazing Upgrade

  • New Hero Skin, the Gentlemonkey Gadgeteer Geraldo! Geraldo was a challenge to find the time for a skin with so much more custom art required compared to our normal hero roster but he’s finally, fancily here
  • Introducing our newest map, Castle Revenge! Those who have been with us for a while will recognize elements from our previous games. We enjoy incorporating our beloved content into new releases not just for sentimental reasons, but also because they offer exciting gameplay. • Royal Tank Academy trial: discover Captain Churchill’s strengths and abilities
    • One Stop Pop Shop trial: discover Geraldo’s strengths and abilities

    • Added new category for Interactable props (look for the Hammer icon tab); these add animating flavor when Interactable layers are removed, but they can also be used as props (but with only limited animation)
    • New items: Responding to the many requests for cityscape elements, we took existing assets from maps like high finance alongside some new stuff to make building the city of your dreams a possibility! The construction supervisor just radioed in saying there are over 60 new construction props with which to build, plus new Paths, Stamps, and Terrain to match!

Upcoming Features

  • Map search is now also available for co-op lobby map selection
  • Map ‘Gizmos’ are now influenced by Challenge Editor ‘removable cost rate’
    • This includes items such as: Workshop Conveyor Belt / Track Extensions, Dark Dungeons Statue & the Polyphemus Eye mechanic.
  • While we like giving players lots to choose from as early as possible, we’ve seen feedback that the current hero unlock flow can feel overwhelming with all Monkey Money unlockable heroes becoming available immediately at account level 10. To address this, we are spacing this period out with a few different groupings of Hero unlocks and holding back some of the more complex Heroes until account level 35.
    • Level 15 heroes: Churchill, Benjamin, Pat Fusty
    • Level 25 heroes: Sauda, Ezili, Etienne, Adora
    • Level 35 heroes: Psi, Brickell, Geraldo, Corvus
  • Added ‘cash spent’ to the Victory Screen summary
  • Despite PC players’ requests to have various niche commands hotkeyed, we are limited by the valuable real estate on the keyboard. To address this issue, we have introduced an advanced section of default unbound hotkeys to accommodate more specific and situational actions. These hotkeys will not be activated by default, but players can manually bind them if they find them useful. We welcome your feedback on additional commands that would be suitable for this list.
  • Cycling upgrades menu in challenges now skips past towers that are banned (yay!)
  • Individual stages of Quests can now be replayed without resetting the entire Quest

Building Stability

Many towers in the game still have underpowered Damage Over Time mechanics that have not been properly adjusted or scaled. In response, we have addressed these issues in this update to increase the use and effectiveness of Damage Over Time.

The character count for the paragraph is 228 and it cannot be injected.

Despite being a niche problem, players have experienced issues when using Spike-o-pult’s lower range in the Juggernaut path. This is due to the precise placement required to aim the attack and how it changes with increased range. To address this concern, we have decided to match the range across all upgrades for Spike-o-pult.

  • 3xx Spike-o-pult range increased from 32 > 36.8
  • 4xx Juggernaut range remains unchanged at 36.8

The paragraph has a character limit of 12 and currently has a count of 92. It cannot be injected with any additional elements. It is about a “Bomb Shooter”.

In order to give players more control, the MOAB Assassin ability will now follow the tower’s target priority when selecting its targets. However, it will still never target non-MOABs. As a primarily AoE focused path, Fortification will continue to be a significant weakness unless the bonus is more than double the effectiveness. In hindsight, attempting to counter this weakness on this path was not a good idea. Instead, we will focus on increasing the raw, inexpensive AoE damage output that this path excels in, and players can handle fortification on their own with the extra funds from this price reduction.

  • x4x MOAB Assassin ability follows target priority instead of Strong
  • xx5 Bomb Blitz price reduced from $35,000 > $28,000
  • xx5 Bomb Blitz attack cooldown reduced from 1.5s > 1
  • xx5 Bomb Blitz damage reduced from 6 > 3
  • xx5 Bomb Blitz no longer deals bonus damage to Fortified

Ice Monkey

Although Embrittlement is a cost-effective option, its effectiveness is hindered by its restricted range and lower attack rate, limiting its applicability to a small number of targets. On the other hand, Super Brittle is considerably more expensive but still faces the same difficulties. Considering the increased cost, it would be reasonable to improve its attack rate even more.

  • 5xx Super Brittle attack cooldown reduced from 2.16s > 1.8s

The paragraph has a character limit of 13 and currently has 53 characters. It cannot be injected with additional content. The paragraph is about a “Sniper Monkey”.

Although Bouncing Bullets remains somewhat effective in certain situations, we believe that the current power level does not justify the difficulty in saving up for it. To address this, we are adjusting prices to allow players to access this upgrade earlier, while maintaining its value for higher tiers. These higher tiers still offer additional income support that is balanced around their cost. We also agree that the T5 sniper changes, aimed at improving sniper farming quality of life, were a positive step. However, we want to take this further and directly implement this approach starting from the T4 Supply Drop.

  • x3x Bouncing Bullet price reduced from $2,800 > $2,400
  • x4x Supply Drop price increased from $7,200 > $7,600
  • x4x Supply Drop now triggers other supply drops when one is used

The Monkey Sub has a maximum character count of

130

Since the main attack only reaches T2 on the top path, we aim to increase the power of Energizer in order to encourage players to un-submerge. However, considering the strong buffability of this attack, we will be cautious in our approach to avoid going overboard.

  • 5xx Energizer main dart attack damage increased from 1 > 5
  • 502 Energizer airburst attack damage increased from 1 > 5

The Monkey Buccaneer has a character count of 16 and a current count of 96.

Several enhancements have been implemented to enhance the performance of higher tier Buccanneer’s DoT applications. The pierce ability in the bottom crosspath is now more effective than before and is comparable to that of the Destroyer, thus providing a better crosspath balance for the Flagship. The middle path of the buccaneer maintains its initial 1 damage projectile, which is not upgradable. However, the Cannons function as a replacement upgrade for this projectile. Therefore, the dart will no longer be available and the damage of grapes for T3 and T4 on this path has been increased. This will allow players to save up for the Pirate Lord upgrade in lower tiers.

  • 420 Aircraft Carrier damage over time increased from 2 > 4
  • 520 Carrier Flagship damage over time increased from 2 > 9
  • x3x Cannon Ship main dart attack disabled
  • x3x Cannon Ship Grape damage increased from 1 > 2
  • x4x Monkey Pirates Grape damage increased from 2 > 3
  • x4x Monkey Pirates damage over time increased from 2 > 4
  • 024 Flavoured Trades damage over time increased from 2 > 4
  • 025 Trade Empire damage over time increased from 2 > 9

The pilot of the helicopter is called the Heli Pilot.

The blowback rate for Special Operations has been increased to incorporate the recent upgrades to the downdraft, which now supports chinook and adds more value to the late-game support capabilities of this path. The Comanche Commander has recently received buffs and the Geraldo subtowers bugfix, solidifying its position as a strong late-game DPS tower. With its powerful synergies, the current price feels too low and we believe it is now a solid pick for any map. While we recognize that this may not be a sufficient nerf, we will wait until v43 to consider further changes to address this synergy.

  • x5x Special Poperations downdraft attack cooldown reduced from 0.15 > 0.075
  • xx5 Comanche Commander price increased from $32,000 > $35,000

The Mortar Monkey has a character count of 13 and a current count of 93, but it is not injectable.

Despite our overall satisfaction with the state of mortar compared to its past performance, we have found it difficult to justify the Burny Stuff crosspath on middle mortar. As a result, in addition to making adjustments to other damage over time attacks in this update, we are experimenting with a minor increase in damage over time along this path.

  • 032 Heavy Shells burn damage over time increased from 1 > 2
  • 042 Artillery Battery burn damage over time increased from 1 > 3
  • 052 Pop & Awe burn damage over time increased from 1 > 5

Magical Ape

The Wizard was performing well in all areas and had proven to be effective in various situations, which led to some reluctance in making changes. However, we recognized the need for important modifications, especially in regards to DoT, which resulted in the implementation of new scaling for the Dragon’s Breath attack. This will enhance the damage over time on higher upgrades. Additionally, for the enjoyment of Wizard enthusiasts, we have also made a fun adjustment to the projectile count, which will aid in spreading flames to multiple targets. While we are aware that these changes may impact the current balance, they were made with the intention of adding more fun to the game and catering to the Wizard community.

  • x4x Dragon’s breath damage over time increased from 1 > 2
  • x4x Dragon’s breath attack now ‘fires’ (hehe) 2 projectiles
  • x4x Dragon’s breath attack pierce reduced from 4 > 3
  • x4x Summon Phoenix ability projectile speed increased from 350 > 450
  • x5x WLP’s Dragon’s Breath attack damage over time increased 1 > 10
  • x5x WLP’s Dragon’s Breath attack now fires 3 projectiles
  • x5x WLP’s Dragon’s Breath attack damage reduced from 6 > 2
  • x5x WLP’s Dragon’s Breath attack pierce reduced from 50 > 15

The Super Monkey has a

total of 332 characters

In order to maintain balance after Robo’s recent adjustments, we initially reduced the price of Tech Terrors. However, upon reflection, it is clear that Robo is still too dominant and Tech Terrors were already strong enough on their own. Therefore, both upgrades will now be nerfed accordingly, with the added measure of a price increase for Anti-Bloon. We hope that this will not create a similar situation where Anti-Bloon becomes overly dominant and further changes are required in version 43.

  • x3x Robo Monkey price increased from $7,000 > $7,500
  • x4x Tech Terror no longer slightly increases attack speed
  • x4x Tech Terror price increased from $18,000 > $25,000
  • x5x Anti Bloon price reduced $90,000 > $80,000

The paragraph Ninja Monkey has a character count of 12 and a current count of 172, and is not injectable.

The lower path Ninja does not utilize the main shuriken projectile beyond the xx1 upgrade, making it insignificant on higher levels. Since Flash Bombs may appear weak without strong assistance, we are experimenting with adjusting the Flash Bomb Ninja to have improved attack speed and pierce abilities, making it a more effective combo-attacker. This change seems fitting for ninjas and, most importantly, it adds a cool element to the game.

  • xx3 Flash Bomb main Shuriken attack deals more to stunned Bloons +3
  • xx4 Sticky Bomb main Shuriken attack deals more to stickied targets +3
  • xx4 Sticky Bomb damage reduced from 500 > 450
  • xx5 Master Bomber main Shuriken attack deals more to stunned Bloons +9
  • xx5 Master Bomber main Shuriken attack deals more to stickied targets +9
  • Paragon main Shuriken attack deals more to stunned Bloons +15
  • Paragon main Shuriken attack deals more to stickied targets +15

The alchemist

Due to the fact that Berserker Brew groups appear to have an advantage over upgrading to Stronger Stimulant in certain situations, we have decided to decrease the price of Stronger Stimulant in Tier 3. This ensures that the overall cost of Stronger Stimulant remains unchanged, but offers the option to increase the total cost if players choose to continuously use Tier 3 Brews. Additionally, we are focusing on improving the damage over time effect. Currently, Lead to Gold provides a significant damage boost to Leads, but only upon initial impact. We have a clear direction in mind for this change.

  • 3xx Berserker Brew price increased from $1,250 > $1,300
  • 4xx Stronger Stimulant price reduced from $3,000 > $2,950
  • xx3 main attack damage over time now also deals bonus to Leads +9

The Druid has a data-characters of 5 and a data-current-count of 125, but it is not injectable.

Similarly to the sniper, implementing a group that activates these spam abilities without requiring precise timing, but rather as soon as they are off cooldown, would greatly improve the experience for players who prefer alternate farming methods.

  • x4x Jungle’s Bounty now triggers all available Jungle’s Bounty abilities when one is used

The farm that grows bananas

At the moment, Banana Central is an exceptional cash producer due to its high buffability for a single tower. As a result, its cost is increasing. Players have expressed frustration with the current cooldown on IMF Loan during Boss Events, as it often leads to tight timing in order to maximize profits when farming with banks. In response, we have decided to loosen the cooldown to alleviate this issue. Additionally, the cost of the Banana Salvage crosspath will be increased to better reflect its current value in sellback metas where it is frequently utilized.

  • 5xx Banana Central price increased from $100,000 > $115,000
  • x4x IMF Loan cooldown reduced from 90 > 85s
  • xx2 Banana Salvage cost increased $200 > $400
  • xx3 Marketplace cost reduced from $2,900 > $2,700

The job title of the person in charge of handling beasts is “Beast Handler”.

Our original intention for Beast Handler was to create a decision point between using free playable space to save on cash or spending more cash to save on playable space, by balancing the T1-3 upgrade costs. However, in practice, while some people have opted to use their playable space as a resource for more power, there is a clear divide in interest between maximizing cost efficiency of merges and using different towers. As the spam of lower tier handlers already allows for repositioning over a larger area, we have decided to take a different approach by rebalancing the costs across most T1-3 upgrades to have an equal cost per point of merged beast power. This will shift the focus towards understanding the higher value merges and the advantage of having a

  • 1xx Piranha price increased from $160 > $170
  • 2xx Barracuda price reduced from $875 > $850
  • 3xx Great White Shark price reduced from $2,950 > $2,075
  • x2x Adasaurus price reduced from $945 > $890
  • x3x Velociraptor price reduced from $2,600 > $2,170
  • xx1 Gyrfalcon price increased from $190 > $210
  • xx2 Horned Owl price reduced from $960 > $940
  • xx3 Golden Eagle moab penalty increased from 29 > 44
  • xx3 Golden Eagle damage reduced 2 > 1
  • xx3 Golden Eagle damage range reduced 4 > 2
  • xx4 Condor damage remains 2
  • xx4 Condor damage range remains 4

Character Balance

Quincy

Although Quincy’s Storm of Arrows may seem powerful, it loses its effectiveness when faced with Super Ceramics and their Fortified versions. Rather than creating a skin for Quincy that reflects his struggle against these enemies, we have decided to enhance his ability by granting a significant bonus to Ceramic Damage at the point where these enemies become a challenge.

  • Lv18 Storm of Arrows deals bonus damage to Ceramics +18
  • Lv20 Storm of Arrows deals bonus damage to Ceramics +24

Gwendolin

Upon reviewing her kit, it became apparent that we have not made any changes to the actual attack of Gwen’s Heat it Up. We believe that giving her the ability to increase her attack speed and spam these powerful bursts of damage would add an element of excitement and enhance her gameplay. Additionally, this change will also increase the duration of her buff. As a result, we have decided to remove the restriction on the rate of Heat it Up and amplify its damage by ten times.

  • Lv4 Heat it Up now has pierce of 100
  • Gwen’s attack rate levels (Lv12, 15, 18) no longer reduce Heat it Up frequency
  • Lv12 Heat it Up damage increased from 3 > 10
  • Lv15 Heat it Up damage increased from 3 > 20
  • Lv18 Heat it Up damage increased from 3 > 30

Obyn Greenfoot has a character limit of 14 and a current count of 214, but it is not injectable.

By incorporating his nature theme, we have enhanced Obyn’s ability to sustain a strong army of Brambles over several rounds. Additionally, we have doubled Obyn’s buff to the Jungle Druid range, with the aim of significantly boosting the power of druids and enabling a more effective mid-late farming setup.

  • Lv3 Brambles cooldown reduced from 35 > 30
  • Lv3 Brambles round duration increased from 1 > 5
  • Lv5 Range buff for x3x druids increased from 20% > 40%

Benjamin’s name

Benjamin’s role as a farming hero primarily stems from his superior efficiency at Lv1 compared to base farms, all at a lower cost. However, his increased cash generation at higher levels is not particularly significant. In light of this and the potential balance issues with his early game snowball, we have decided to decrease the base cash generation to mitigate its overwhelming nature. In contrast, we are enhancing the cash generation at his higher levels to make him a more valuable asset in the later stages of the game.

  • Lv1 cash generation reduced from $100 > $80
  • Lv2 cash generation reduced from $150 > $120
  • Lv8 cash generation remains unchanged at $250
  • Lv11 cash generation increased from $300 > $1,000
  • Lv15 cash generation increased from $500 > $2,500
  • Lv17 cash generation increased from $800 > $5,000

Ezile

Despite Ezili’s strong anti-camo build, her totem cannot be utilized in CHIMPS mode and her primary attack does not upgrade to de-camo DDTs, making it impossible for her to counter them in this mode. While it is acceptable for some heroes to be more suited for non-CHIMPS gameplay, we saw no reason not to address this issue by allowing her main attack to upgrade and effectively counter DDTs in all game modes.

  • Lv16 Main attack can now de-camo DDTs

A crow

The spell Haste can only be used in combination with other spells and does not have much worth on its own. To allow for more frequent combos without draining a large amount of mana, we have significantly decreased its cost. Additionally, the spell Storm is currently too powerful in both clearing out multiple targets and dealing with single targets. Therefore, we are slightly reducing its effectiveness.

  • Lv3 Haste cost reduced from 75 > 50
  • Lv8 Storm attack cooldown increased from 0.1 > 0.12

As Corvus reaches higher levels, they often find themselves with an excess of mana, resulting in a monotonous and less engaging use of spells. To address this, we have decided to decrease the range in which Spiritual Balance provides bonus mana recovery. This will help maintain a more balanced and engaging gameplay experience.

  • Lv8 Corvus mana gain curve decay start point 40% > 25%
  • Lv8 Corvus mana gain curve decay end point 80% > 65%

Repeatedly using the Recovery into Nourishment cycle to earn maximum XP without ever encountering corvus attack takes away from the enjoyment of playing this hero, therefore we have decided to put an end to it.

  • Recovery spell no longer applies cooldown reduction to Nourishment

We initially intended to prevent passive stall mana gain with Corvus, but we decided to make a small adjustment to allow for more flexibility in co-op splits or situations where Corvus is placed poorly. As a result, Corvus will now passively generate a small amount of mana while Bloons are spawning, but the mana gain from popping Haunted Bloons has been reduced.

  • Lv1 Haunt mana gain per layer reduced from 8 > 5
  • Lv1 Corvus passively recovers 1mana /s so long as Bloons are spawning

The balance of Relic Knowledge.

In order to improve the overall balance, we have made minor adjustments to some of the relic knowledge. These tweaks mostly involve slight increases in numbers for relics that have been deemed to have low value across all types of tiles. However, relics that only have low usage on certain types of tiles have not been altered, as they still hold value in specific situations. Additionally, the maximum barrier size for Restoration has been slightly reduced. This is because it has been observed to act as a complete camo counter in many cases, while also providing advantages against non-camo Bloons.

  • Hero Boost: Hero XP multiplier increased from 15% > 20%
  • Broken Heart: Bonus damage to Regrow increased from 1 > 2
  • Going the Distance: Range bonus increased from 20% > 30%
  • Fortifried: Bonus damage to fortified increased from 1 > 2
  • Restoration: Maximum barrier reduced from 200 > 150

In the future, we aim to further utilize relics. However, incorporating them into the game can be challenging as they often only affect a single variable. We welcome any feedback on this matter.

In case you have reached this point, we would like to point out that the problems mentioned in the beginning regarding players being able to surpass the prop limit did not actually enable them to submit the map. Therefore, we hope that nobody read through that and attempted to submit an outlandish map before updating.

Moving Ahead

  • We’ve deepened team discussions about all of the topics raised in the Update 41 notes, and we’re so pleased to make player revenue sharing a reality this early in the year. As always, we’ll be looking for your feedback on the player creator system, and we’ll be thinking about improvements in platform coverage and any specific additions needed to better support the Game Editor and mods system later in the year. We continue to enjoy the experimental and story-related elements of the Quests system, and it’s generating more room for great ideas all across the team to quickly turn into live gameplay. We have one surprise that will happen before Update 43, so we’ll talk about that once live, and until then here is the latest news on key content that we’ve already mentioned.
    • PlayStation: We were on track for early April launch but did have issues to fix from our submission, so we are back in the pipe and very close to launch. Stay tuned to Ninja Kiwi social feeds, where we’ll post the date as soon as that is locked in.
    • Console Updates: We are shifting our priorities as stated in Update 41, as we have heard loud and clear from Xbox players that they are frustrated to be so far behind the other platforms. Once PlayStation is out, our next priority will be a content update for Xbox and PlayStation, focusing on maps, Heroes, and other content that can come forward without substantial input reworks (meaning substantially different UI and controls like Contested Territory, Corvus’ spellbook, and more complicated interactive maps like Polyphemus). We are going to try to bring as much forward as possible, but we will err on the side of leaving a few more complicated elements out of the update in favor of getting a huge chunk of content in the hands of very patient Console supporters. We are still keen to get Switch into development after this content update.
    • Jetpack Hero is planned for Update 43 and Mermonkey Tower for Update 44. These are both in progress and looking to add super fun play mechanics – fitting well with the other Monkeys but also standing out as quite unique.
    • Boss Rush Team Event is in development for Update 43 but there is a heap of backend to all multiplayer and Team related systems, so we will shift this back if needed.
    • Game Editor: Not much to report on this other than we are further defining the core architecture of the system to be future proof, and we’ve had initial conversations with existing BTD6 modders and we’re further defining the scope of the initial launch this month, so stay tuned on this.
