On June 19, Gallup Korea released the findings of their survey, “Top 50 Things that Koreans Like,”which was administered from March 22 to April 5, 2024 to a nationwide sample of 1,777 individuals aged 13 and above.
Based on the information from Gallup Korea, the rankings for the Singer category in the “Top 50 Things that Koreans Like”are as follows:
- Lim Young-woong: 10.3%
- IU: 9.0%
- BTS: 4.9%
- Na Hoon-ah: 4.0%
- New Jeans: 3.5%
- Jang Yun-jeong: 3.4%
- Jin-seong: 2.7%
- Yeong-tak: 2.4%
- Song Ga-in: 2.4%
- BLACKPINK: 2.2%
Among the singers who received over 1% of responses from the survey are Lee Chan-won (2.0%), Sung Si-kyung (1.9%), Kim Yeon-ja (1.6%), as well as Kim Ho-jung, Cho Yong-pil (over 1.5%), Lee Hyori (1.3%), Lyn (1.2%), Jeon Yu-jin, IVE (above 1.1%), Jang Min-ho, Lee Seung-cheol, Lee Moon-se, and Lee Mi-ja (above 1.0%).
It appears that Lim Young-woong has gained immense popularity in Korea, particularly among older women. This has resulted in the trot singer surpassing top idol groups such as BTS, NewJeans, and BLACKPINK, as well as even surpassing the title of “nation’s little sister”held by IU.
The following are comments from internet users about this outcome:
- Wow NewJeans is truly the public’s pick
- The fact that BTS was in the military and still rank so high
- BLACKPINK hasn’t done any group activities since forever, so it’s impressive
- IU tops the charts for so many age groups… she’s so impressive
Information from both Gallup and theqoo was used as a source.
