On April 26th, Big Hit Music, the label of BTS, announced that their leader, RM, will be releasing his second solo album titled “Right Place, Wrong Person”on May 24th. This album comes after a span of 1 year and 5 months since his first official solo album, “Indigo”, was released in December 2022. The highly-anticipated album will feature 11 songs, all of which were written and composed by RM, garnering much attention.
According to a representative from Big Hit Music, as reported by Yonhap News, RM’s solo album will showcase his distinct style, setting it apart from BTS’s albums. It is a concentrated effort to highlight RM’s individual essence.
The BTS members are currently serving their mandatory military duties. As it is a difficult period for the group to participate in activities together, RM’s solo album is anticipated to provide fans with much-needed comfort.
Nevertheless, unintentional controversy emerged when RM’s solo album was scheduled to be released on the same day as the comeback date of the group NewJeans.
Amidst the ongoing debate over the “management rights dispute”between HYBE and its subsidiary label ADOR’s CEO Min Hee-jin, CEO Min held a press conference on April 25th to present her official stance. She revealed the details of a messenger exchange between herself and HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si-hyuk during the conference. In the exchange, Bang Si-hyuk reportedly made a comment about NewJeans’ success on the Billboard charts, asking, “Are you pleased with this?”
After witnessing this conversation, individuals on multiple social media platforms, including X (previously known as Twitter), began to speculate that Bang Si-hyuk might have been envious of NewJeans’ accomplishments.
Moreover, the coincidence of BTS RM’s solo album release and NewJeans’ comeback only added to the controversy. This sparked heated debates among netizens on online communities like TheQoo, with some arguing that HYBE’s intentions were obvious while others dismissed it as mere chance.
The artists are currently facing a challenging situation, with all eyes on the resolution of the dispute between HYBE and CEO Min.
