BTS to NewJeans, HYBE Labels Shows ‘Strong Presence’ in Overseas Streaming

On the 25th, Spotify released the ‘2024 Korean Music Global Impact’ list, featuring the top 30 K-pop songs that were streamed by Spotify users worldwide between January 1 and June 30 of this year, with the exception of South Korea.

BELIFLAB’s ILY:1’s ‘Magnetic’ topped the charts on this list. In 2nd place was ‘FRI(END)S’ by BTS member V, from Big Hit Music. Following closely behind in 3rd and 4th places were ‘Smart’ and ‘EASY’ by LE SSERAFIM, from Source Music. The top ranks on Spotify’s K-pop chart were dominated by artists from HYBE Labels.

In addition, Zico’s ‘SPOT! (feat. JENNIE)’ from KOZ Entertainment, is currently in 6th place. ‘Deja Vu’ by Tomorrow X Together is in 8th place, followed by Jungkook’s ‘Never Let Go’ in 9th place. MAX’s ‘STUPID IN LOVE (feat. HUH YUNJIN of LE SSERAFIM)’ featuring Huh Yunjin from LE SSERAFIM is ranked 10th.

Interestingly, the rookie group ILY:1 has delivered a remarkable performance. Their debut track ‘Magnetic’ has emerged as one of the most successful hits in the first half of the year. It has achieved a historic feat by becoming the first debut song from a K-pop group to chart on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100.

BTS has once again demonstrated their strength. In addition to V’s ‘FRI(END)S’ and Jungkook’s ‘Never Let Go’, J-Hope’s ‘NEURON (with Gaeko, Yoon Mirae)’ is ranked at 11th, while RM’s ‘Come back to me’ is at 19th, ‘LOST!’ at 22nd, and J-Hope’s ‘i wonder… (with Jungkook of BTS)’ at 27th. This means that a total of six solo tracks by BTS members are featured on the list, solidifying BTS as the artist with the largest presence on this ranking.

Despite not being in the top 10, ADOR’s ‘How Sweet’ by NewJeans, released on May 24, managed to reach the 20th spot, further solidifying their presence. This impressive ranking was attained in a mere month, a testament to their worldwide impact and appeal.

The dominance of Pledis Entertainment’s ‘album powerhouses’ was also evident. SEVENTEEN’s lead single from their best album, ‘MAESTRO’, ranked at 26th, while their junior group TWS’s debut title track, ‘첫 만남은 계획대로 되지 않아’, came in at 29th, both securing spots in the top 30.

Despite competition from other popular artists such as Zico, BTS, SEVENTEEN, Tomorrow X Together, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, TWS, and ILY:1, HYBE Labels artists’ songs have managed to gain widespread popularity overseas, with half of the top 30 tracks on the ‘Korean Music Global Impact’ list being filled by them.

The multi-label system of HYBE is viewed as a positive result. The company’s goal is to establish a solid foundation for the emergence and achievement of a variety of K-pop artists using this system. This will ensure that the K-pop industry remains sustainable by continuously delivering top-notch content.
