BTS’s Suga Apologizes For Drunk Driving Incident, “I Thought Lightly That The Distance Was Short”

On August 7th, Suga expressed his feelings on the fan community Weverse, stating “I am filled with heaviness and sorrow for having to share such disappointing news with you all.”

Suga admitted, “I made the mistake of riding an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol last night after dinner.”He acknowledged that his actions violated the Road Traffic Law and were a result of his belief that the distance was short and his lack of awareness of the prohibition against using an electric scooter while intoxicated.

Suga apologized for his actions, stating that while attempting to park his electric scooter at the front door of his house, he fell. A nearby police officer noticed and requested a breathalyzer test, resulting in the revocation of his license and a fine. He acknowledged that no one or property was harmed, but took full responsibility for his mistake and apologized sincerely to everyone involved.

Suga expressed his regret, stating, “I sincerely apologize to anyone who was affected by my thoughtlessness and mistakes. Moving forward, I will be more mindful of my actions to prevent similar situations from occurring.”

After consuming alcohol on the evening of August 6th, Suga, from the agency Big Hit Music, was reported to have ridden an electric scooter while wearing a helmet on his way home. While attempting to park the scooter after riding approximately 500 meters, he fell and was subsequently given a breathalyzer test. As a result, Suga was fined and had his license revoked, according to an official statement released by his agency.

The agency reported that no harm was done to individuals or property, and Suga was escorted home by the police.

The agency expressed regret for causing disappointment to numerous individuals as a result of their artist’s inappropriate behavior. They also stated that the artist, who is employed as a social service worker, will face appropriate disciplinary measures at his workplace due to the social controversy he caused.

On the same day, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced that they were conducting an investigation into BTS’s Suga for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). The police stated that Suga was riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in Yongsan-gu the day before when he fell by himself. A police officer who came to assist Suga noticed the smell of alcohol and brought him to a nearby district police station.

In the meantime, since September of last year, Suga has been fulfilling his military service duties as a social service worker. He is expected to be discharged in June 2025.
