BTS’s Suga Faces Prosecution for Drunk Driving Charges

The police have reported that Suga was referred to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office by the Seoul Yongsan Police Station at approximately 2 PM on August 30th. He was not detained, and is currently under suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act for drunk driving.

According to reports, Suga was allegedly operating an electric scooter while under the influence on the streets of Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu at approximately 11:15 PM on August 6th. As stated in the Road Traffic Act, electric scooters are considered to be “vehicles”.

Despite claiming to have consumed only one beer at the time, Suga’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.227%, well above the legal limit of 0.08% which results in a revoked license.

On August 23rd, 17 days after the incident, Suga presented himself at the police station where he was subjected to a 3-hour investigation and confessed to the accusations.

Suga, who began his basic military training at the Nonsan Training Center in Chungcheongnam-do in March, is currently fulfilling his duties as a public service worker. He is expected to complete his service and be discharged in June 2025.
