On August 16th, KBS informed Daily Sports that they had not yet made a decision on whether to hold a Broadcasting Appearance Review Committee for BTS’s Suga.
The Broadcasting Appearance Restriction Review Committee of KBS enforces limitations on individuals who have engaged in illegal activities or caused social controversies. The committee is responsible for cases involving offenses such as being “booked and arrested by police, sentenced to prison or probation,”evading military service, engaging in habitual drug use or marijuana smoking, committing fraud or theft, participating in gambling, being involved in assaults or sexual scandals, and engaging in actions that violate public morals or disrupt social order.
If the committee determines that the individual in question is responsible for a problem, they have the authority to implement measures such as issuing a “recommendation to refrain from casting,”imposing a “temporary ban on appearance”(in situations where the person is facing civil or criminal prosecution), or restricting their appearance on broadcasts, depending on the seriousness of the issue.
In 2022, after causing a drunk driving accident with a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.2%, actress Kim Sae-ron was banned by KBS from appearing on their broadcasts. Similarly, KBS also barred Kwak Do-won from appearing on their broadcasts after his blood alcohol concentration level was found to be 0.158% during his drunk driving issue.
Suga was discovered riding an electric scooter while intoxicated in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on August 6th. He was arrested by the police for breaking the Road Traffic Act. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.227%, exceeding the legal limit and resulting in the revocation of his license.
Despite Suga’s blood alcohol concentration level being significantly higher than that of Kim Sae-ron and Kwak Do-won, it is certain that his appearance will be banned by KBS. This means that Suga will not be able to participate in BTS’s promotions on KBS, or his face will be blurred out on screen.
