Buggy’s Yonko status in One Piece may have been for Koby’s benefit all along, and East Blue is the key

Despite his questionable reputation, Buggy remains one of the most talked-about characters in One Piece. His supposed status as an Emperor continues to spark controversy. Whenever he finds himself in a tough spot, fans believe that Eiichiro Oda always manages to miraculously save him.

Nevertheless, his title as an Emperor may have been advantageous for another individual – the first person to encounter Monkey D. Luffy after he joined the ranks of pirates. This individual is none other than Koby, a Marine captain and a member of the covert group SWORD.

Koby and Buggy were first introduced in the East Blue saga, but their growth has not been highlighted since then. As Koby continues to progress in the Marines, he could potentially surpass Buggy and become the second hero of the Marines after Garp, especially with Buggy’s status as an Emperor possibly shifting in Koby’s favor in the future.

Buggy, also known as the Star Clown, is a minor antagonist in the series. He first appeared in episode 4/chapter 9 as the leader of the Buggy Pirates and was one of the initial adversaries that Straw Hat Luffy encountered on his quest to become the Pirate King, in the East Blue arc of One Piece.

During the Impel Down arc, Buggy and Luffy crossed paths once again after their previous encounter where Luffy emerged victorious. Buggy, still harboring resentment towards Luffy, attempted to abandon him to his fate in the depths of Impel Down. However, thanks to the heroic sacrifice of Bon Clay, they were able to escape. Despite his notoriety as a fearsome pirate, Buggy was falsely declared one of the Sea Emperors, joining the ranks of Luffy and his crew.

During the East Blue Saga of One Piece, Koby was a former Alvida Pirate and the first individual that Luffy encountered on his voyage towards the Grand Line. Despite his desire to become a marine officer, Alvida prevented Koby from pursuing his dream. However, after Luffy defeated Alvida, Koby gained the courage to pursue his aspirations. He was then taken under the wing of Marine Hero Garp and trained to become a formidable warrior.

After the Marineford arc, Koby’s Observation Haki awakened, revealing a grim future. His actions saved the lives of numerous Marine officers and pirates, leading to his promotion to Marine Captain. In addition, he secretly joined the SWORD group to continue his pursuit of justice.

Koby’s goal of achieving the rank of an Admiral or even higher in the Marine Corps could potentially be aided by Buggy’s position as an Emperor.

Despite Buggy’s devil fruit powers, the author has confirmed that he would have no chance against an opponent with Haki. Therefore, Koby’s final challenger will be Buggy and their battle will ultimately end in Koby’s triumph, solidifying his position as the Marine Hero, following in the footsteps of his mentor Garp.

Despite this, the main reason why a fight between Buggy and Koby is logical is that they were both introduced in the East Blue Saga, the inaugural saga of One Piece. Despite being introduced, both characters have yet to demonstrate their full capabilities in battle. Therefore, it would provide them with an opportunity to showcase their growth since their initial appearance.
