Bungie Unveils Destiny Rising: The First Mobile Game Spin-Off

NetEase has unveiled Destiny Rising, announcing details on how players can sign up for the closed alpha testing phase.

On July 31, Bungie made the difficult decision to lay off 220 employees, which constitutes approximately 17% of its total workforce. The layoffs ignited backlash among Destiny 2 players, who labeled the situation as “unjustifiable” and called for the CEO’s resignation. In light of declining sales from expansions, the game will shift away from its previous annual release schedule.

Additionally, players can expect smaller content packs in the future rather than the standard large expansions. This strategy has sparked debate, as the Final Shape and Lightfall expansions had significantly boosted player engagement.

Concerns regarding the potential cancellation of Destiny 3 have only intensified worries about the franchise’s future. However, amidst these troubling times, excitement has been rekindled with NetEase’s release of the initial trailer for Destiny Rising.

The closed alpha for Destiny Rising is set to commence on November 1. Interested players can pre-register now through the game’s official website.

“For over a decade, we have developed this universe filled with diverse and captivating stories, and we are thrilled for mobile gamers to experience this fresh perspective of the Destiny universe brought to life by NetEase’s creative team,” stated Terry Redfield, Bungie’s creative lead.

Destiny Rising will offer both first-person and third-person gameplay, with compatibility for touchscreen controls as well as game controllers. Players will encounter a blend of beloved characters and new faces. The game will include various modes such as campaign missions, cooperative six-player strikes, and options for both PVE and PVP experiences.

In strike missions, players can form clans or invite friends for relaxed party game modes. Players will explore two distinct biomes—the frigid, ancient metro of Jiangshi and the vibrant Red Sea Rift—while embarking on a new storyline within the Destiny universe.

Upon its launch, players can enjoy a broad selection of exotic weapons to experiment with, tailoring gameplay to their unique play styles.

Meanwhile, players can dive into Episode Revenant, which has just debuted in Destiny 2.
