Bungie wins lawsuit against cheat provider for Destiny 2, resulting in $4M in damages.

After a court affirmed the damages and a second denied the defendant’s request for a new trial, Bungie has been granted $4.4 million in damages from their lawsuit against cheat developer AimJunkies.

The court case between Destiny 2 developers Bungie and cheat developers AimJunkies concluded over a year ago, resulting in Bungie receiving $4.4 million in damages. Recently, the courts have finalized this amount, with one confirming the damages and another rejecting the cheat providers’ request for a new trial.

According to PCGamer, the initial legal action was part of a larger effort to combat multiple cheat makers. While the case against AimJunkies initially faced a setback with a judge’s dismissal, it ultimately went to arbitration and resulted in a $4.4 million ruling in Bungie’s favor.

Recently, a report revealed that AimJunkies, a cheat seller, made an attempt to counter Bungie’s accusation by filing for a new trial. They claimed that Bungie could not prove that they had violated their terms and conditions.

Despite a new ruling on August 30, which rejected the claim, the court stated that there was “substantial”direct and circumstantial evidence contradicting it. This evidence supported the jury’s previous findings.

Destiny 2 developers have been known to pursue legal action against bad actors.

AimJunkies referenced a 1992 legal dispute between Galoob Toys and Nintendo to support its case, arguing that its software did not constitute derivative works and thus did not infringe on their copyright.

The court’s ruling differed on this matter, asserting that the software utilized by AimJunkies went beyond simply providing access to Destiny 2’s programming.

Due to this, the courts rejected a request for a second trial and upheld the original verdict, which obligated the cheat developers to pay $4.4 million to the developers of Destiny 2.

Bungie is well-known for taking legal measures against individuals who cause harm within their games. This includes multiple lawsuits against cheat developers and addressing cases of player harassment both within and outside of their games.
