The morning of May 22nd saw SBS Love FM’s “Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show” welcoming guest SBS Entertainment News reporter Kang Kyung-yoon. During the show, Kang discussed topics such as the Burning Sun Scandal, illegal filming, prostitution, and the concerning connections between individuals in the entertainment industry and the police.
During the broadcast, attorney Kim Tae-hyun discussed the details of BBC’s documentary on the Burning Sun Scandal in 2019. He questioned the motive behind BBC’s interest in the case and their decision to create a documentary on it.
The documentary production, which reporter Kang revealed took around 3 years, was a difficult process for her. She had not intended to appear in the documentary, as the incident had been a traumatic experience for her. When such a major incident occurred, she felt lost and unsure of how to handle it. She had to deal with it on her own once things calmed down, which was a daunting task. It was a scary situation as she had just started to return to her normal life and needed to focus on work. The thought of revisiting the incident from 4 years ago and having to fight again was exhausting. Despite her initial reservations, the BBC production team persisted and continued to come to Korea to persuade her.
In the interim, the reporter Kang remembered the late Goo Ha-ra, a singer who played a crucial role in exposing the connection between Burning Sun members and the police. Kang shared, “Mentioning someone who has passed away is always a delicate matter. I was concerned about how the family of the deceased would react. When Ha-ra passed away, I was devastated and couldn’t bring myself to go through my contacts. However, I recently revisited our past conversations and realized the importance of speaking about her.”
Lawyer Kim was interested in the current developments surrounding the Burning Sun Scandal and its main culprits, Jung Joon-young and Seungri. According to Reporter Kang, both of them have been released from prison. She also mentioned that Seungri is no longer pursuing a career in music and is instead focusing on his business ventures. As for Jung Joon-young, it was reported that he is making preparations to move to another country.
