The Incheon Airport Police Station has scheduled a witness interrogation of the employees from the private security company involved in the controversy surrounding actor Byun Woo-seok’s excessive security on July 24th. The bodyguards who closed the gate on the day in question will be summoned by the police to provide information about the incident. Additionally, the bodyguard who pointed a flashlight at ordinary citizens and the CEO of the security company will also be questioned in sequence.
Following the eruption of controversy, the police initiated an internal investigation into six employees of the security company responsible for safeguarding Byun Woo-seok during his departure. Charges under consideration include obstruction of business and coercion, in light of the bodyguards’ actions such as impeding entry, scrutinizing citizens’ passports and boarding passes, and using flashlights to illuminate citizens.
The CEO of Byun Woo-seok’s security company, A, stated that despite the Incheon International Airport’s denial of consultation, they will provide evidence during the police investigation that all security protocols were carried out in collaboration with the airport’s team.
In response to the accusation of gate closure, CEO A explained that the Incheon Airport’s Security Division had instructed them on the proper way to manually operate the automatic doors after someone passes through the gate. Additionally, there were 4 security staff members present who directly blocked the gate after actor Byun Woo-seok passed through it. The CEO also stated that they would provide footage showing the airport staff present at the time of Byun Woo-seok’s departure.
In regards to controlling access to escalators and inspecting passports and boarding passes of citizens, CEO A explained that due to concerns about potential accidents caused by large crowds, they consulted with the airport security division at the gate. They emphasized the importance of coordination with airport staff, stating that it would be impossible for a private security company to handle these tasks without their assistance.
During a recent interview, CEO A elaborated, “There was a large gathering of duty-free shop employees, citizens, and fans at the airport, which raised concerns about potential accidents. In collaboration with airport personnel, we implemented measures to avoid overcrowding on the escalators.”Additionally, CEO A explained, “Due to the large crowd, we were unable to inspect passports, but we did confirm that individuals had proper authorization to enter the lounge.”
A continued, “Some fans purchased business tickets to be in close proximity to the actor and closely observe his movements within the security zone” , further stating, “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the bodyguard who shone flashlights at bystanders” .
